Is it because you are dropping racist bombs? Nice.... Humor aside, I didn't think racism was tolerated here. You are truly classless.

I think the original poster was trying to quote Ali G. Is it cos I is black? (Guardian newspaper)

I am the OP, and I assure you I was not trying to quote anyone. I simply asked for impressions of the Arivas. Period.

Oops, sorry. I was being clumsy when I put original in my post.

The Arriva is nice speaker which I liked very much when I demoed it. I ended up choosing the n-SAT though as I needed something that could be wall mounted. I hope you are enjoying your Arrivas.

I have a stormy relationship with my Ariva. When I first took it home with my Nait 5i I was mighty impressed with the bass extension and details. But after a few days I found problem with mid bass boom which I had a hard time taming.

I then moved to a different place and upgraded my amplification to 202/200. The sound was hard and edgy and I darn near sold the whole set. But on Monday I brought home a HiCap and it seemed to have cured all that was wrong with the system. There is still some problem with mid bass boom occasionally due to the proximity to side wall, but as I said in another post it transformed my system, the Ariva is sounding very nice now. Before the HiCap Horowitz's last concert sounded like he was striking the piano in anger. Now he sounds a lot more gentle and delicate.

I will reserve judgment; this could be some euphoric experience with new equipment.

My bottom line is the Ariva seems to behave very differently depending on listening environment and amplification. I know it is true for all equipment, but the Ariva seems to be more so.

No hard feelings Roo. I just wanted to set the record straight.

Now the Arivas still need to be broken in since they were NIB, but I'm enjoying the sound much more than my JM Lab Focals in this case. I also changed to Ikea Eina table, so I'm assuming this has also played a part in the difference in performance and sound of my kit.

More to come later......

Its nice to see an Ariva post. This is my first post, and may be my last. I have had mine for about two years now. Paired with Nait 5i, CD5X, NACA speaker cable. Ariva's are some of the most natural speakers I have heard anywhere near the price. Most other speakers were just too "tizzy" in the treble. When I had the upgrade bug, and called my Naim dealer here in the States, he said he preferred the Ariva over the next two higher priced Naim speakers. I have found there is something very organic and natural in the interaction between Nait 5i, CD5x and Ariva. I started the Naim upgrade path over a year ago with the 112x, 200, flatcap 2x, cd5x, Ariva. With one toe in the water, I hated it and sold everything but the Arivas. It sounded like listening to a metronome. Clinical, cold, analytical, sterile, etc. I am sure someone will say I should have tried the 202, but I didn't. The sound became clinical and pulled apart. Kind of like stretching taffy too far - or seperating all the musicians by brick walls. I may be jumped on for heresy (and likely will), but when I used to play out (as a musician) nothing ever sounded pulled apart and distinct. The whole point of making music is to make an organic basket of sound, weaved together as a wall of sound(if its done right). I digress. After my slight upgrade, I then tried out tube gear from McIntosh, Almarro, and Mesa (used). Nothing came close to the magic of Ariva, Nait 5i, CD5X, and NACA. The tube gear was warm and organic, but had a gauze over the transients. The electricity of live music was veiled, missing. So, I am back to that same system. Lost a lot of money along the way, but traveling costs money. What is my point? My point is that, contrary to the indoctrination of upgrade, upgrade, upgrade, there is something to be said for the more connected, organic sound of the entry level Naim gear. It is great and provides a different experience. Then again, I am not an audiophile, I am a former musician. As to the Naim upgrade path, I do have to share one caveat. I have heard the top of the line Naim gear in one system at my dealer. I have to admit, it was indeed an awesome experience and better than my starter system (for $100k U.S. it better be). In between, I have yet to be convinced. Start the egg and stone throwing. I am a heretic. But a happy one. Cheers.

I dunno Jon, I think there's a few here who are CD5X>Nait 5i>Arivas.

This may turn out to be a stretch, but could it be that Arivas could become the new SBLs? Big Grin

Cheers,
Bruce

Jon,

Hopefully it will not be your last post. I just found Naim in Feb 2008. It's quite obvious that I had no clue what a good system should sound like.

I can not claim to be an auidophile, but I am truly enjoying my entry level Naim kit to the fullest. Thanks for sharing.

Ed

Purely (no pun intended) because we had no other speaker to run on the end of a 555,552,500 until some SL2's were assembled, we had a little talk to my ariva's and gently persuaded them to sit on the end for a bit and see how they felt....

Ariva's reported that it felt good, real good...TOO GOOD....to be sane...and then the SL2's were assembled and well that was that...Volume needed to be closely monitored - too much of a good thing is a bad thing but they now sit happily on the 282/250 until a more suitable speaker arrives by courier (tomorrow hopefully) and then they come back home to a supernait...

The grip that the 500 system had over the ariva was nothing short of stunning...

Short story with no real meaning but I would bet it's not often that Ariva's are partnered so high above their station and thought it was worth sharing...

Hey, here's a technical question: what material is the Ariva woofer made from?

Someone out there has stated that polypropylene is a music-killer in a speaker cone. Anyway.
