Hi Folks
I'm considering getting a Denon DL-304 and currently have a stageline 'E' (400uV/400ohm for medium output cartridges). I note that denon strongly recommends a loading of 100ohm and also that the output of the 304 is 180uV. Clearly I would have to change to the 'S' spec of the stageline but am concerned that the loading of 470ohm will not match the cartridge spec. Any thoughts or advise (equally, any thoughts on viable cartridge alternatives up to £500) warmly received. I am currently using a gyrodec thru a 202/200 combo with the aforementioned stageline E and a Goldring Elite (nearing the end of its life) Many thanks in advance, Mark |

Hello Mark,
I've been using a DL304 with a S Stageline for a few years and can whole heartedly recommend the combination. The Denon is a very even performer ,which is what makes it a great buy even at its new price. I use mine in an Ekos with an extra pair of bolts in the slots behind the bolt holes. Well worth doing. Hi Martin
Many thanks for the feedback - it's good to hear that it works ok with the 's' stageline. One of my issues is that I don't really know or understand how the loading concept of cartridges and phono pre-amps applies and have to go on hearsay. Also, I won't actually get a chance to audition the 304 so will be taking a leap of faith by buying blind :-) So great to hear it works well for you. Presume it will be ok with gyro and modified rb300? Cheers m |
