A number of the 500 series boxes employ suspended circuit board technology. The latest offering to employ this technology is the SuperLine; which confirms both Naim’s commitment to that the technology and proof that it can be applied to the circuit boards in half size cases.

Given the above, would there be benefits in implementing the technology in the snaxo 362/242?

Yes there probable would.

As with all developments at Naim - we have to ask - what are the costs? What is the market?

... and then - can the sales over period x justify the upfront and production costs of the product?

Additionally - would research resources allocated to this project be better applied elsewhere? And probably quite a few other questions.

I used to bustle down to a long-suffering Roy George with brilliant ideas and modifications to existing products. Always polite, he would patiently explain that 1: they had thought of that 2: It did/didn't work 3: they had it on the long finger 4: they were presently working on it. After a while it dawned on me that they are called R&D because this is their full-time job. An enthusiast like me was welcome to share that enthusiasm (very polite) but, as with me, there are more things in Research and Development, Ginger Cat, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.

So yes - it is an obvious development (as others have noted) but the trajectory of product development is determined months or years before production. We are introducing new products at an impressive rate for a relatively small company (don't forget the unnoticed Bentley work) - we will get around to most things - eventually.

And, yes, a bloke in a garage could surely (please don't call ..) slap a lump of brass on some springs under the circuit board and drill some threaded holes through it - but it isn't that easy and we might like to optimise the results to ensure that the audible results live up to the guesswork.

Hi Adam,

Thank you for your reply.

"Probably" and "eventually" will have to do me for now. There is no harm in reminding R&D of what customers would like to see, even if such developments have already been considered and for the time being remain on the long finger.

Kind regards

The Ginger Cat known as Garfield.
