It seems that those with Prefix experience are very positive about it's virtues over the Pre-amp boards fitted in 82, 52 etc. but what about when you change catridges? I assume the Prefix comes in S or K incarnations and you have to change it completely if a new catridge requires the other format. For instance if you go from A Karma to a Dynavector? Anybody had any experience of this? confused

It's pretty rare that anyone selects a replacement MC cartridge that tends to be brighter than the one they had, though the boards can be changed by Naim at a later time...had you started with a Karma / Troika / K-type cartridge, one would guess that a reasonably musical yet "refined" cartridge would be a preference--a cartridge that would be best suited by a "K"...

(BTW, which Dynavector cartridge were you considering?)

Hi David
I´ve got a Karma cartridge with a S-Prefix.
Will there be a big difference if I change to a K-Prefix?.
My Linn dealer prefer the S-boards for Karma!.

That's why the boards exist in the first place...

It is helpful to note (though most people know this already) that phono stages are not "flat" across their frequency range (RIAA emphasis / de-emphasis curve) and thus loading is very important, especially in the frequency extremes.

As regards the "S" boards, relative to the "K" they are a bit more closed-in, which helps to tame cartridges that are more revealing in hifispeak.

Thanks David!
Do you know how much it will cost to convert a S-prefix to a K ?
