groveling in front of a CD player is so undignified.

I'd see it more as "bowing in worship", and from what I hear the 555 is more than worthy Winker

The issue of spacing is not new. The ideas for my crazy and very fine (in terms of musical sonority) rack were germinating three years ago, and were finished two years ago. There are further developements in line and these are partially visible behind a stack of CD covers!

More news in a few weeks perhaps!

Fredrik

Several people have experienced significant improvements by having an empty shelf between a CDS3 and a 552 head unit and then another empty shelf between the 552 and the 500 amp.
Christian.....Derek is right I feel. I have mine setup like this now and really heard audible impovements especially creating space around the 552.

I actually converted standard height Fraim levels by buying just the tall spacers and bolts which Naim will supply on request. It saved quite a lot of money over buying complete fraim layer kits.

Geoff

For some reason, I see only crossed red circle instead of the picture in Birdie62 messages.

No problem to see other pictures.

Any idea why? Thanx!

Hello Sebastian,

Yesterday, I had the same problem with my own pictures and several others. Today, I noticed I wasn't logged in to the forum, and after having logged in, I could see all the pictures!

Later on: new speakers: Sonus Faber Stradivari Homage or Focal Nova Utopia or Dynaudio Evidence Temptation.

Christian,

I've a feeling Focal JMLab will come up soon with a all new redesigned Utopia line...
That's my guess anyway. after the new Electra line and the Chorus line being just replaced (I don't know though if they are already in the shops)

Regards,
Edouard

Before you do that, try moving the top shelf from the right hand stack and putting it below the 555. I think you'll get a very worthwhile improvement - the system shoulld relax and swing more. I'd be cautious about having two tall shelves below a 555 - they are less rigid than the short ones. It will look more like this...

Oops. I didn't mean to post that one. That was an experiment with the 01, which made CD sound terrible. The one I meant to posts was...

That is an older shot with an 02. The 01 now lives on the top two shelves of the right hand stack - 01 on the left at the top, NAPST on the right below. It does look a little scuffy though - but if you have them directly above each other the 01 sounds worse - as you'd expect.

Vodka is THE ONLY safe drink a Moscovite can buy at the moment -- nearly all imported drinks are gone off the shelves due to some government order: they cancelled old 'postal stamps' usually glued to bottles and introduced new stamps as from 1st July but forgot to print these.

Now the shelves are nearly empty like in good old Soviet times -- the only things one can buy are vodka, Asian plum wine (for some reason) and Russian 'champagne'.

Protectionism or prohibition?
Here in Italy they found out that the more the people's wages are low the more people drink.
Sign of times.

Nigel,

Have you tried removing the unused glass shelves. I tried the same thing on my Fraim on the unused shelf. Tell me what you think.

Dev

Christian,

just so you're aware, you can just buy new longer legs rather than buying a whole new level.

However, there may be slightly better performance with two short levels than one tall one.

cheers, Martin
