Nigel, is it really better staring at a solid wall? Big Grin

By the way, my system is on the side, out from between the speakers. But I have arranged this way because it is the only possibility and practical in our living rooom here.

I have a very attractive fireplace between my speakers, but a blank wall, maybe not!

A couple of questions re IanGtoo's set up please?

1/. How did you spike your Ikea units?

2/. You have one speaker freestanding'ish (right) and one enclosed'ish (left)...do you not find this creates an inbalance? I only ask because my room dynamics are such that I have to have one speaker tight in a corner and one not...?

Bought some spikes mail order from Russ Andrew's website and drilled them into the corners.

Actully the left speaker is not really enclosed as there is an open doorway to the left which you won't see in the picture. On the other hand it is true that it is open behind the right speaker and not behind the left. I'm sure this causes some imbalance but we have no choice in our crazy shaped livingroom but this one. Eyes closed I don't hear anything imbalanced but I guess it's not helping.

Tight in a corner I suspect will be a whole lot tougher to get right.

Hi David and Edouard
Sorry for the confusion but this is a picture I sent AV of my system which was posted by him.I should really learn how to post my own photos I suppose....Anyway, the system is 200/202/Napsc/Hicap2/CDX2 with the new 805s's.Next step when I can afford it will be an XPS2 or maybe a 282 which would allow me to use the 2nd Hicap I have sitting in the closet at the moment.
The floor is called black walnut and yes,I like the black Fraims best as they seem to blend with the black boxes the best. Silver uprights do look great with CB stuff though!
Cheers
Sandy

Hi David
Yes, I use Naca5 and perhaps I will try switching the Hicap and 200 around. I should also move the Napsc back down on the floor or maybe beside the Hicap. Any ideas on the order I should be plugging everything into the wiremold?
Thanks
Sandy

The Naim USA website has some suggestions on that here (near the bottom of the page, under "Sequencing"):

What should be furthest away from pre/source? power supply or power amp?

Alan,

It shouldn't make much difference really, both should be as far as possible.
I put the power supply further away, which usually means more below, therefore the amp which produces music is on a upper level which seems more logical, I find it also and more practical to plug and unplug the Naca5.

Edouard

Sandy,

You may want to sell the HC sitting in the closet now and put the money on a saving account! When you'll get a 282, you'll sell the other Hicap and with the money you got from the two HC you'll purchase a Supercap!

Mind you should skip the 282 and move directly to a 252! Why not sell your 2 HC now and power your 202 with a SC, you'll be very surprise with the big improvement you'll get!

Then upgrade your CDX2 with a XPS2 and later on swap your 202 for a 252.
Just my 2 cents,

Regards,
Edouard

I think what you are trying to say here is "buy a 555/552/500" Big Grin

Well not exactly...
Sandy is aiming for a 282 with 2 Hicaps which he already got.
It could be that for little extra money he could swap his 2 HC for a s/h supercap.

As for upgrading the 202 to a better pre, I believe it's always better with Naim to skip one level, the difference between a 202 and a 282 isn't that big, and the difference in price between a 282 and a 252 isn't that much really once you got the right PS.

Best regards,
Edouard

Hi again
Sorry, I couldn't respond earlier but I had to go to work (to help pay for the 555/552/500)that I now have to buy! Roll Eyes I was actually hoping to stop at the 202/200/CDX2 level with the addition of the XPS2 when I could afford it. A used 282 in my city just happened to come up and I was wondering if upgrading the pre and adding the 2nd Hicap would be a bigger upgrade than the power supply to my CDX2.....Anyone?
