Before buying the Densen,I heard a Rega system and didn´t convice me! Then,I had a demo in Atitude with a Nac 202/Nap 200.This was really a improvement over the Nait, however the speakers cables were Van Den Hul and the speakers New Audio Frontier. This factores didn´t help the demo.Adding a Hi cap to the Nac 202 was really a improvement and a amazing surprise for me.But for me the Naim amplifiers lacks the lushness of a Rega system.
Then I had the chance to hear a Densen and Krell amplifier, and I found the lushness I like in music in Densen,as a new refinement. This Densen integrate is no far from a 112/150,I believe.

Rickard, that's a really, really nice room. Wish I could be so neat and tidy.

How about a close up of the system (with the cover off the SME).

Thanks Steve
but credit should go to my partner Anna (at least regarding the tidy look and furniture). Are you satisfied (stupid questions really) with your 282/Hi2/250.2 combo.
I will upgrade my amp soon, my heart says 252/200 as a stop, my wallet says (nothing right now Razz) 282/200 plus Hi or SC.
I will need a new pu soon and that Tyr IC between PH5 and amp. So I'll probably end up with ???

How are things going with your Rhea?

BTW, here a pic, sort of close up, the Rack is homemade, oak and black granite, plus some Clearlight Audio RDC products...

Regards
Rickard

Rickard

I'm content with the 282/HiCap/250.2 for the moment. My current priority is phono stage, then speakers. The Rhea is still burning in - the sound is variable from hour to hour. Overall, I like the way it sounds - it's pretty fast and dynamic, without treble harshness I had before. But the valves make a lot of noise, so I'm also going to try out the Sutherland PhD (battery powered, no noise) and choose between the two.

You know, if I was you, instead of a 252, I think I would go for 282/200/HiCap, and spend the rest of the money on a new phono stage. I noticed with the Rhea that it's not just the loading that influences the feeling of excitement in the sound, but the gain as well. If the PH5 doesn't have enough gain, you can't go very far with it.

You need a new pu? Do you mean the new SME power supply?

Steve

Hi Steve
I mean't a new pick-up (cartridge). My Benz is on the low output side. Thinking of a van Den Hul Frog as discussed earlier.
Do you not like the PH5? It's the new model from Audio Research, (alot?) better than the old PH3se. So it will probably stay for a while, but my next cartridge should have an output of 0.4mV/3.54cm/s or above. Gain is 57,5dB and I havn't noticed any valverush or what ever it's called.

Yeah, the 252 is a bit expensive and I probably could squeze in a 282/200 combo in the upcoming shopping spree Cool
A new PS for the SME have to wait...

Regards

Rickard

P.S Have you considered supercap? D.S

Thanks for the positive response. The room is still a work in progress.

Yo-yo Master

No it's not a Pollock. A friend of mine who does animation at Disney did that for me. And as far as side wall reflection, the whole room is one big reflection right now. The concrete floors, the hard surfaces, etc. Next hi-fi item will be curtains!

blackforest

LOL. Your knowledge of the Ikea catalog is both impressive and scary. A new rug is on the way. Thanks.

RiNo

I would gladly trade my fake Pollock for your lovely view. How do you like your PH5?

John,

what's that object at the hard left on your picture? A work of art or an instrument case? Looks nice anyway.

Btw I had to look twice to notice you're using Meadowlarks and not SBLs.

Mr Blackforest really knows his stuff. It's an Eames Leg Splint. No longer used as a splint but rather an object du art. Smile

And yes, the speakers are Meadowlark Shearwaters. Love 'em.
