Hello could someone help me with a little ( potential )issue.

I was in my local Naim Dealership the other day and I mentioned that I found it strange that with my system turned off turning on either my NAP90 OR HICAP ( but not both ) resulted in the little green light on the Preamp ( NAC62 ) coming on.

I was told there is something not right with this so I checked my cables -- 5 pin snaic from pre-amp to hicap ( directional band at pre amp ) then 4 pin snaic from hicap to power amp ( directional band at hicap ) which I believe is right.

Can anyone shed some greem light on what's going on and if it is and issue?

Thanks

Leo

Hi Leo,

It's simple, you have a potential power supplies clash here.

Don't plug the preamp's SNAIC cable into socket #3 on the Hicap, use socket 1 or 2 (from the left) instead.

That should sound rather more nicely when you'll have done that. Winker

Bye.

Sorry to hijack your post but this has got me thinking.
I have just checked the connections on my Chrome bumper Hicap and I have got my Nac 82 plugged into socket 4 (5 pin grey snaic) and my Nap 250 plugged into socket 3 (black 4pin to XLR).
Is this correct?

Thanks for the quick reply Adam.
So going back to the original post, how can you plug your preamp into socket 3 (or 1or2) when it is 4pin and the preamp is 5pin? Confused

You can't (unless your preamplifier is single 24 volts and the HiCap is an early one with voltage on socket 3.

I think "don't plug the power amp's SNAIC cable into socket 3 on the HiCap" may have been intended.

You cannot have a problem - as the NAP 250 does not output a supply for a preamplifier.

Woops! I've meant the power amp's SNAIC... Red Face

If you're using a power amp that can power up a preamp, I think you should avoid plugging it on socket #3 if you're using a chrome bumper Hicap or an early Olive one.

Bye.

Ok well it seems to work!

Of the 4 sockets on the back of the olive hicap I ( orginally) had the 5 pin sniac going from the preamp into socket 4 of the hicap and them the 4 pin snaic going from socket 3 of the hicap into the power amp.

Now the 4 pin snaic goes from socket 1 of the hicap into the power amp....is this right?
