Top View. The arm is far better without the later detachable headshell because it allows the straight through rewire

As Abbydog said, I kept to the original power supply.

Very nice indeed - bet you got loads of satisfaction from doing it! Would love to hear SME with Dynavector 17D3. Used to run one with Ultimo 10X many years ago and it was good.

Back in the day, we used to remove the rubber gromits from the arm bedplate on the Linn (and TD 160) and just screw it down with the screws, or add washers underneath to ensure you could still slide the base for overhang adjustment - well worth trying.

I still get a thrill from the quality of the original SME - you never forget your first one!

I'm on a bit of a mission with older Linns at the moment, because so many are being lost via updates. Its really nice to see a largely original deck well cared for/loved.

Prop-up lid, anyone Smile

Reason I ask is that I've just started running my DV 17D3 into my Plinius stage at 470 ohms and was quite shocked at how bright it sounds with this loading. Previously, the stage was set up for the Akiva and the 17 sounded a bit dull, if anything. I decided to dedicate the Plinius to the 17 when the SuperLine arrived.

This cart does seem very sensitive to loading so it might be worth playing with some of the options on the P-75. I'll try some different loadings on the Plinius (fellow New Zealander to P-75, I think) and report back.

I think the 17D3 likes a 100 ohm load, but I could be wrong about this. on a P-75 the only sensible mode is the DrT mode.

John P - please don't think I am trying to be rude - only constructive. But to my eyes, the picture of your LP12 shows a turntable in need of spring adjustment. The armboard should fit more or less squarely in the rectangular opening, and be level with the top. It looks from the photo as if it might be in danger of touching the adjacent metal-work.

See Jimmy Hughes article on setting up the LP12 Set up LP12

I know Jimmy was a Peter Belt convert for a while, but he is sound on Linn.

But I may be wrong in my observation.

Hi Don,

Thanks for that. The Deck is now ok. Finished the adjustments after the photo's. The acrylic base has holes underneath for the final adjustments when the base is on.

Regards

John
