Hi all,
I am a Naim freshman and living in Hong Kong. I bought Nait 5i and CD5i last year. I am very satisfied with their performance. So, I bought the NAP 122x/150+ combo today. When I played my favorite CD with this new combo, I am very happy with it since the presentation improves a lot. Unfortunately, I found problem when I test LP because one of the RCA channel of the CD input doesn't work. When I return it to the shop, the shopkeeper changed another one to me. This time, I found few obvious scratches on the front panels of the NAP 122x. Now, I need wait till next Monday and hopefully I won't encounter any problem this time. Before that, I heard few posts in HK HiFi newsgroups complaining about the CD5x quality. They found that the player cannot read some CDs after 1 or 2 month. I know that Naim engineer or customer service people may read this newsgroup periodically. I hope that they can aware the product quality since it is one of the important factors to maintain or expand the market position. Don't wast the Naim's goodwill and many HK people and I really love it!! I am planning to stay with Naim at least few more years. Ben Ng from HK. |

Welcome to the forum Ben,
Every audio product, especialy cd players can have some issues before or later, but when we talk about Naim, they offer the best service in the audio world, but that what you heard about cd5x which generaly cannot read cd's after a month is not truth. Maybe is the case that someone have bough it and that this happened to that person and now evil tongues says that every cd5x cannot read cd's after a month. Be aware of that people, because many of us here believe that Naim best products are their cd players Re faulty RCA output, it is possible that someone before you has been a bit heavy handed with the unit. Cheers, Oz |

Thanks Oz.
The machine should be new and just arrived from the HK distributor. I am quite sure since it is out of stock few days ago. Yes, I know that the customer service of Naim in UK or US is quite good. Unfortunately, it is not the case in Hong Kong. You may not know that the warranty period of Naim product in HK is only 1 year, not 5 year. Sometime, it takes 1 or 2 weeks to get the machine repaired for a minor problem. If you do it after the warranty period, they will charge you excessively and makes you buying a new one instead. Having said that, I love Naim sound very much and enjoys to watch people discussing Naim in this forum. |

My CD2X developed skpping problem after 3 years of good music. It took two visits to local dealer here in Malaysia to get it back to sing again. The first visit took about 3 weeks and the second was much longer, 7 weeks. The warranty period of Naim in Malaysia is only one year same as in Hong Kong. In my opinion Naim users outside UK not really treated as equal.

Hi David,
I always think that the quality of the distributor will seriously affect the attractiveness of the product. Just like Musical Fidelity, the ex-Hong Kong distributor set the price too high and makes this brand almost disappeared in HK in last few years. Now, MF took back the distribution in Hong Kong and did it on her own. I found that the price is more reasonable and the popularity of this brand improves a lot in HK. If you cannot keep the QC and provide good customer service, you cannot survive in such high competitive market nowadays. Honestly, I won't consider Naim CD player over US$2k now as I don't know how much they will charge me after 1-year warranty period. I am searching for other CD player that can match my 122/150 combo and replace my cd5i in near future. |

Hi Ben,
Pls do not let me put you off because of my experience with CD2X. It is a very musical CDP at any price. I strongly suggest you try it out before making any decision. To be fair, I paid only about 400USD to get the repair done by the local dealer. What I do not like is the one year warranty as compared to 5 in UK and the waiting period for the repair. Off course the over pricing is a concerning factor as there is only one authorized dealer in Malaysia. |

Ben, forget all this, Naim cd players are very good quality, but regarding sound, they do not voice the same, so make a home dem before purchase, because it is possible that you would like more natural sound for the CDX2 price.
Good luck, Oz |

i was also very upset by Naim's quality...I bought the Hi-Cap a few months ago but this brand new Hi-Cap made my SuperNait broke down because of the 4-PIN DIN cable was 'shorted circuited" with two of its PINs. The dealer exchanged a new circuit board for me then.
Two weeks ago, my CD-5X suddenly didn't work and was found that some circuits were "blow up"... So far the after sales service offered by the dealer is ok but the quality of Naim is a question to me |

In HK is not really possible to get a home demo unless you are buying something really exotic and prohibitively expensive say a pair of speakers retailing at 100k GBP+)
However....been a Naimer sine last September...so far so good... qualitywise,,, the switch gears alone ooze quality....really solid. I have a CDX2 too.... i did try CD5X+FC2 and i feel CDX2 has the edge (imagine adding a XPS!!, ok pls pls I do NOT want to start another war on CD5X+FC" vs CDX2!!)...just please yrself with wht ever u like....enjoy Naim and the music |

My cd5x started to play up after nearly a years heavy use.
Naim sorted it, after a few months it went again. I got a brand new one within 2 days. Its a great bit of kit, And great service. If you have marks on the box its probably your dealers ex dem one he has replaced yours with. Thats not Naims fault. Whats the S number on it? Munch |
