I recently bought a new Naim CD5i, I suspect it did not break in yet, but I got the feeling that I need to replace my cables.

CD5i replaced TEAC VRDS-25 (original model, not VRDS-25X) in my system: it goes via interconnect Wireworld Silver Eclipse (first model) to integrated amp Densen DM-10 via speaker cables Tara Labs Space and Time Quantum II (thick like a hose) to Thiel 2 2 speakers.

Originally I had Nordost speaker cables but the sound was very harsh and fatiging and I switched to Tara Labs which made everything smoother.

Now, with new CD5i I noticed that all of my classical CDs sound excellent, way better than on VRDS-25 - piano solo are better focused and have larger soundstage, string quartets sound very smooth (digital grain of VRDS-25 is gone) and orchestras have a good separation and soundstage and some of the air on the top high frequencies.

At the same time, my jazz CDs sound rather dull with CD5i, I cannot say what's wrong but the music is not there, with a few exceptions (remastered CDs on Verve started to sound better). Also, DC5i killed my Billy Holiday 10CDs box The Complete Billy Holiday on Columbia 1933-1944 - now the hiss is so present and it's unbearable (VRDS-25 gave a smoother sound).

Pop and rock music mostly sound better on CD5i - better tempo and more bass - but on some CDs I have too much of low end wooly bass, so I cannot put the volume any louder because of bass. especially on electronic music.

I know that Wireworld Silver Eclipse gives a lot of everything, including lots of low frequencies but it is also a good cable. Besides, for Densen not every cable will do - I tried Van Den Hul graphite cable a while ago, and although sound was very nice it produced hum. So, maybe I should not rush to replace interconnect and instead replace the speaker cable?

What if I'd buy a pair of NACA5 3.3 meter speaker cable and leave Wireworld as interconnect, would it sound better in my system than with current Tara Labs? Would it not just kill low frequencies and the classical music will sound dull with pop and rock sound nice?

Any advice will be highly appreciated.

all my best,
Valery
