Thank goodness they've gone. I didn't want to say anything while they were here but they're all a bit boring!

What were they on about Mark?
Seemed more like an IT Crowd convention than a HiFi forum IMO!

Dear John,

I suspect the real problem was that there has been so little chance to actually audition the machines with our own favourite music!

In the absence of this auditioning chance, it seems to me that people have been forced back onto speculation about, and discussion of, the [really not so interesting] technical aspects.

Once the machines become regular pieces in the flesh, then the discussion will settle down. In my view for posts about the musical value of the server machines may well make a reasonable appearance in this section provided that the posts are not full of computer-boffin geekery!

The only two concerns I have are quality of musical replay, and how the system manages continuous replay through multiple but continuous tracks in a live recording. I have no doubt that these aspects will be well addressed.

I don't suppose that long-running and axe-grinding comparative threads about for example "Is HDX better than CD Replay?" or "Does HDX Eclipse LP Replay?" will be any more enjoyable than the current tendency here for occasional threads that have titles like, "CD vs LP!" In a way I would actually welcome the new section back into the main Forum if this could be avoided! I do realise that this is not my business to administer or decide!

I got the impression it was a "glorious" excuse to discuss means rather than ends. Which can, sometimes, appear to have lost the plot.

I could not agree more ... especially after four 0.5 litres of Żyviec!

Mind you I think the server idea is about as pleasing as any idea in replay, since the radio.

All the simplicity of one quite small box, and hey presto! Music without distraction or complication!

Nice to know that when I return from my little break in San Francisco, Hi-Fi Corner will be back to normal. Anyway its great here. Not a Blu-Ray disc to be had (even in Virgin they're hiding 'em) despite SACD-style claims about the format's success here. Did six vinyl shops yesterday and even got a lecture from a cab driver about how bad digital was ('I don't wanna get technical on ya now, but it just don't work,ya know...')
