I would guess if there is an improvement it would be very very marginal - but let us know how you get on!!

Sounds messy! Especially when you next take it apart or adjust it. And wouldn't sand get caught in the threads, which can't help any from a practical perspective I'm sure..?

Just happen to have spoken to the US importer about Quadraspire yesterday and he mentioned that same issue with the 32mm having an open column due to a different manufacturing process than the 19mm. According to him there is little difference, mostly theoretical, however, the company is making a new 32mm column part of the Sunoko-vent product line that is of a different more concave shape and is solid. It can be used interchangeably with any Q system. BTW, they are also introducing the Q7 which are stainless feet to further support the spikes.

So it sounds like it may be worth it? I filled my speaker stands. I just bought two 4 shelf Q4 racks last weekend. I'll go ahead and fill them up and see what happens.
I guess I was thinking if we wanted them a bit "wobbly" as the threads suggest that making the columns more dense and solid would be the opposite.

In my experience simply making things heavier can mess with the timing. The physics of this is sound and was pointed out by Ivor T amongs others. High mass will absorb but it will also send much of what it absorbs back out again and there will be a bigger time lag than with a low mass object. That's why the lighter isolated platfroms often work better than the heavier ones (and why I believe a lot of the high mass turntables are just a fad/phallusy [spelling intentional]).
But that's just my opinion....
As for the Quadraspire - one thing is for sure - it tends to sound better when it's not overtightened.

Gregg, Your dealer is wrong. Quadraspire is the home of wobbly racks. Keep it loose but not so loose to distort the shape. ATB John

Nip up columns, then back off one-quarter to one-half turn works for me. The important thing seems to be that the shelf spacers are not clamped tight, especially with Sonoko-Vent...
