It could be difficult clearing out before you have both in house for a listening test.
I've had CDI, in my system it was harsh and coarse, but with tremendous nearness, authority and weight. I've later learnt of members that it's a must to get a topclass stand for it. I've downgraded to a CD3, it wasn't as coarse and harsh, but it has a somehow "thinner presentation". It is possible to be swept away in music on both CD's, but I miss something the CDI could, therefore I'm searching for a s/h CD2/CDX/CDS1. Also think of the lifetime of the laser, as the CD3.5 must be some years younger. Best regards |

Per is right, the CDI needs a good quality support, mine was elevated from "musical, but a little harsh and coarse" to "musical, lively, and authorative".
I have only heard a 3.5 in poor conditions. I do like, though, late CD3's such as I had. They are also less sensitive to setup. I would only make this swap after listening to the CDI, preferably well set-up. |

Completely with Omie, especially on latter day CD3.0s.
Except that I would not swop. :-) The CDI is just more correct, but NEEDS a good support. Think of it as a Naim CDP with a built in Hicap. Older CDIs with the CDM4 mechs are better than those with CDM9-pro mechs. While you're at it, maybe you could ditch the 3.5 and move the Flatcap to the Nait? |

The laser mech of CDi is changed within a year.
Is it then cdm9pro or cdm4? I have five tier target rack with spiked top shelf. |

the 9pro protrudes somewhat whilst the 4 is flushed flat, like the rest of the immediate surrounding area.
happy new year |
