pré-amp NAC 125, amp NAP 160.What is your opinion on these, how old are they? Are they worth buying if on low budget?
If they are the same prive on the used market, would you go for a Linn MajikI?
The NAP 160 have been reconditioned lately(according to the add )!

The 160 is a killer amp. Quite a strong rumour to it being preferable to the current 180. Was Naim's first amp, and was in production from about 1972-1982 (check the Naim site for full details). Later ones are a bit better, though all are good. One of my friends had a really old 'bolt together' one and it was excellent. The 12S is Naim's first pre, it is a little outdated nowadays, but if you are on a tight budget, it gets you through the door!

When I purchased my first 42/110 combo, the dealer had no 42 in stock and I left with my 110 and a loaner 12S until my own 42 came in from the factory. The 12 was a fantastic pre-amp and I was more than a little disappointed when the 42 that replaced it several weeks later did not sound nearly as good. Eventually I got the 42 to produce great sounds, but this required Hicapping it (early version with single rail outputs)- the 12 seemed less dependent on an outboard p/s (although I did not try it that way). Given the vintage of 12s (they have been out of production for many years) I would not buy one unless I was willing to have the extra inconvenience and expense of having it fully serviced.

Unfortunately I can't comment about the NAC12, but I had a home demo of NAC32.5+NAP160.

Tony's right I'm afraid. The 160 is somehow better than my 180. Perhaps its sound is less refined and detailed, but it has a terrific punch and it's so fast. I would say it is more 'Naim style' than the 180.
If it has been properly serviced and you don't mind the old look it is a serious amp at a bargain price.

The Majik? Arrange a demo (any NAC+160 vs Majik). Five minutes is enough...
