There has been much written about CD3.5/flatcap vs CDX.

But has anybody an CD2 and CDX standing for comparison ?.
How much difference is there between them and can you in absolutely terms say when or when not the CD2 or CDX is connected.
Is the CDX worth that extra money when we are talking a 2hand deal (also taken into consideration that extra XPS or CDS1-PS option for CDX) and what is your opinion of 2hand price level for those 2 cd machines, as the CDX I’m talking about lies around £ 1300-1400 gbp. I have’nt any CD2 offers yet, but earlier price observations were in the £ 700-1000 region.

The situation for me is that I downgraded after a couple of years with the CDI, to an CD3. In my previos set-up CDI was a bit corny in treble region which CD3 has’nt. But otherwise I miss some of CDI’s strength. Do I get these in a CD2 as I have been told it has’nt so much CDI grain, or is the road CDX only ?
Then I sell my CD3/Nait 3 and plan 72/*cap/NAP?/KAN maybe IBL. CDS2 is out of my reach.

All the best

If you consider that Naim is a progressive company, then their later offerings should be better at the same price categories. For example, CDi was replaced by CD2, which was replaced by CDX. However, all three models make good music albeit with slightly different strengths and weaknesses. I have listened to CDX and currently own CD2 and I personally find it hard to pick between the two.

Do note that the CD2 has 2 variants. The standard model is equipped with a CDM-9 transport. There were some with CDM-9PRO (identified with an all-metal CD spindle), which sounds better.

In the end, I think your decision will be tempered with your longer term goals. If you are happy to stop at the CD2/CDX level, the CD2 is a very good buy. Aspiring to CDSII later could be made less painful with the upgradeable CDX route. Good luck.

Thats’ a good note James, for me it gives a bit preference for CD2 if I can find any!
(Allthough that CDX is cheap anyway)
Does anybody know serial numbers for CD2 with CDM-9 PRO ?

Thank you James for your thoughtfully advice.

Hi Per,
my investigation on the old forum for s.n of the CD 2 with 9pro : 115.587 - 120.146. These serial numbers were reportet in a thread about CDM 9 vs. CDM 9pro, so the numbers may vary.

Best regards, Martin
