I bought a used eVo2 a few weeks ago. They are supposed to be outstanding even at the £2900 list price - I paid less than half this so it should be a bit of a bargain.
The Stereo Times review says it all really: http://www.stereotimes.com/amp010903.shtm I should be getting my new CD player within a few days so it shouldn't be long before I here what the Bel Canto is truly capable of. Matt. |

Big Tone aka/Wadia-Miester (Zerogain)/Slop Monster (Pink Fish)/Thunderbird2 as Tone (here) uses one and, tbh it's very agile and musical as I've heard it in his system.

johnh,
I use an eVo6 ( bridged ) to drive ATC for a Home Cinema system. I've tried the amp with Naim source and pre out of curiosity. The combo wasn't bad but it still lacked in the bass dynamics of my SET amplifiers and wasn't as much fun as using a Naim power. I've tried thier preamp, too. I think they are more in keeping with a 'Halcro' type of sound. My eVo has the latest Tripath chipset as well as larger than normal transformer to accommodate an ATC, but doesn't have the Cardas caps upgrade they are offering recently. it offers an excellent value but lacks in timing a bit. Speedo heard this amp once. Not bad- not bad at all. It's certainly a consideration over other non-Naim solid state or digital switching amps (speedo liked it more than some Jeff Rowlands he heard).

quote: Yep. Sold it and now I use 47Lab's Shigaraki/Dumpty power supply. The combo sounds closer to the Naim sound than Bel Canto. [This message was edited by kuma on Sat 28 August 2004 at 3:38.] |

quote: Rowland is lot warmer in tonal balance than Bel Canto and the latter is 'faster' comparatively. I've done the AB between an eVo and Concentra ( this amp isn't a power house, either ) driving my ATC SCM10. A first generation of eVo with a smaller transformer than current ones, didn't have a chance driving a 80db. ATC. Just about only time eVo timed right was when bridged monoblocked eVo 2 driving a pair of horn TAD speakers. A tell-tale sign of amp needing to see an easy load to shine. Given the price difference, Bel Canto is appealing. Where it stumbled was, when presented a tougher load, conventional analogue amplifiers held out better on low notes. An eVo does not clip like a 'analogue' solid state amp, too. It just goes soft. Altho, in all fairness, not too many amps can drive the ATC properly. Which speakers did you hear an eVo with? |

Speedo heard the Bel Canto Evo's with a pair of VMPS ribbon towers and a pair of Martin Logan Prodigy's. Speedo was surprised by their sound, especially with the Martin Logan's.
