Hello.
My system comprises of CD 3.5, Nait 3 and Credos, I am in the process of arranging a demo of a second hand Hicap but have just seen comments on the flatcap2. Has anyone any experience of comparing the 2? which would you recommend? Cheers |

I tried the old flatcap vs the hicap and found the hicap to be IMHO much better than twice the flatcap. The flatcap sounded very dry and clinical (as well as better dynamics) but the hicap gave a better snap without the cost. I've read the flatcap 2 posts as well - and it must be improved by the sound of it - and gives you a second upgrade option. As always - best to listen to them both. Jonathan |

Or you could buy two s/h flatcaps (circa £180 each) !!!, if you don't intend upgrading for a while.
The Hifi + review of the flatcap 2 is quite good, the main conclusion was that in the cd5/nait setup it was best used to power both... but thats £475 mate. Jonathan's right, i went from flatcap to hicap, and the difference is BIG, but the s/h hicap will set you back ~£450. naheed... |

Keep in mind that a Hi-Cap can power only one component. (I would suggest that you use it with the pre-amp instead of the CD player.) In contrast, the Flat-Cap2 can power both the pre-amp (with it's primary supply) and the CD player (with it's secondary supply).
However, the Flat-Cap2 is not as good as the Hi-Cap, so you should probably listen to the two setups before making your decision. Catch you later! -=> Mike Hanson <=- |
