I'm just thinking about replacing my speaker cable on a Naim (NAC102/ NAP180/ CDI, NAT02) Linn Index II system. I'm currently using bi-wired Linn K20 cable but plan to upgrade to Allae's early next year so will move away from the bi-wires.

Is it safe to say longer term when the Allae's are in place NACA5 is the only speaker cable for the job or would I be ok to stick with a non-bi-wire version of my Linn K20 cable?

If I move to the NACA5 cable do you use the Naim right-angled, twin loudspeaker plugs at both the amp and speaker ends, or just the speaker or just the amp?

Finally is this thing about a minimum speaker cable length of 3.5m a myth so something to be taken seriously?

Any help would be reat as I need to fit the cavbles in a couple of weeks before a new floor goes in!!!!

I would go for NACA5 with the Naim plugs, although I regard the cable as way more important than the plugs.

My understanding is that the minimum length for NACA5 is there to provide a particular load to the amplifier. I've heard that five meters is optimal although I have no evidence of this claim.

Chris,

Go for NACA5 as it works very well. Any decent plug will do and most cost less! If you go with Allae's then it shouldall work very nicely together.

"Any decent plug will do and most cost less."

I would advise the use of Naim plugs - these are designed to work well rather than look ritzy. In addition - they will cost less - as they are provided with Naim equipment, free.

naim cable is very good, if you like what it does. as you like naim kit you probably will. naim plugs are also pretty good too.
imho there is better cable out there but you need to spend a lot to get it. e.g. townshend isolda dct at 50 quid a meter.
cheers

Thanks all - looks like Naim Cable and plugs. Am I ok with any length over 3.5m and do you use the Naim right-angled, twin loudspeaker plugs at both the amp and speaker ends, or just the speaker or just the amp?

thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,

I have ended up with the Naim plugs both ends. It is both neater and sounds better than other types I tried (can't just remember what the original ones were), and I understand any length over 3.5 m should be fine...

- although I think there is a length (20m or so) over which you ought to consider buying a smaller house... Cool
