I write as someone who as actually heard the laser table--I can sum up the reaction in one word: SNORE. In theory it should work well, but the laser wavelength is too big (!) to read the upper frequencies (I think above 16KHz) which are tiny modulations of the groove. As a result, it sounds dull, lifeless and boring.

Far better to buy a used LP12, Rega P3 or P9, Roxy, Gyro, etc. Not, perhaps, as sexy, but WAY more musical !

If you get a table, buy one of these:

And make sure you order it fitted with an Aro on one side and an Ekos on the other. That way you can do reliable A/B comparisons and answer once and for all which arm is better.

Music is the answer.

All these photo's of strange looking tables are going to turns young Mr Hansons head.

What he needs is a real quality hand made product which will sound unbeatable and will last him forever.

The one Turntable which fits this bill is the Loricraft 501. It is built like a brick you know what, its old in design but the sound is so unbelieveable. The problem is that these turntables are hand made by one man so most people don't even see them let alone hear them.

This turntable is something I am going to buy before I go to the great abode above. I am fortunate in that they are made just outside of Swindon and once you have heard it you will want nothing else. I feel sorry for those of you who have never been able to hear it, you have missed out on a real pleasure in life. You would forget all about those little flimsy Linn's etc once you have heard this sonic wonder.

Read the last but one edition of HiFi plus for a comprehensive review by the revered Mr Hughes.

The wooden plinth is a masterpiece alone.

The cost is £7000.00 so that gives you an idea of how much work goes into it.

To Mike Hanson..........its worth flying over here just to listen to it. Go for the basics and forget those strange looking contraptions suggested by others.
