Are they any good to replace Kans, with I hope a bit more scale and bass. Will they work tight against a wall? Anyone got a pair here?

I think you will find they like a bit of room round them.

Bob, i have the Forest's and they are ported and a minimum of about a foot from rear wall/surrounds let's them sing!.
i was stunned at the sheer musical qualities of the Arro's i heard at the Scottish Hi Fi show at Dalmaqhouy last year and dumped my Kabers which still reside in my daughter's bedroom taking up her "space" Red Face

I too use, & rate very highly the Forests. I have also heard the Arros & think they are great, & sound SO much bigger than their physical size suggests. And I also think that they will probably need a bit of space around/behind them.
They are great, if you can accomodate them.
Matt.

i too rate the forests - in fact they are high on my list of new speakers to audition...AGAIN!
BOB, if at all possible get a home dem as with EVERY speaker they are essentially room dependant more than any other bit of kit....but im sure you know that.

Hi Bob,

I am very familiar with the Arro, and they are a wonderful speaker if you partner them correctly - fast, dynamic, open and extremely musical. They have a prescence that suggests that they are twice their physical size. In terms of placement, they are probably the easiest of all the Totem range to site and are usually well behaved when placed close to a wall - the Forest likes a bit more breathing space and the Sttaf generally prefers to be in the middle of an open field (!). I would avoid overbright amps or cables with the Arro as this can make the top end rather edgy but otherwise they are a great little communicator - as already suggested, I recommend a listen first. The Forest is my favourite of the range and is superb but if you are after a sound similar to Kans, I would also suggest a listen to the Hawk if budget allows as this is similar to the Arro but with extra depth and range.

regards
VZ

I demoed Arro's a couple of months ago and was amazed by the scale and quality of the sound coming from such a small speaker. I would have probably got round to demoing them at home had I not bought a pair of Art Stilettoes from e-Bay on a whim. As these are currently doing everything I want, I've put further speaker auditioning on hold. Still well worth having a listen for yourself, I should think.

Regards
Nigel

Arro was one of the whimpiest speakers I have had.
They can't go loud ( drivers bottom out ), nor very much dynamics to speak of. Basically a very nice speakers right off the kitchen playing background music because they are benign and at least disappear with a decent sound stage.

In fact Steve, it was not jail, it was a rehab center. The treatment does wonders: Now you will like almost all speakers Big Grin

Thanks for all the replies guys. I need speakers that are tight against a wall, very small footprint, will go loud from time to time and will do all the PRAT stuff. I'ts a lot to ask I know!

At the moment our Kans are of Sound Org wall brackets and are out the way and sound good. I would just like a more open and weightier presentation. They must sound OK with CDX XPS 72 180.

I think one day we will get a pair of Allaes as Debs and I think they do just about all that we are looking for very well, but as a stop gap we thought it might be fun to get a small floorstander.

Thanks again, Bob

If it were me, I'd keep the Kans. You will get more weight and scale if you changed to a 250, and possibly an 82. The Kans are more than good enough. Then, given you want a speaker that will go hard against the wall, think about some SBLs, which are like a grown up Kan, and way bettter than Allaes, which need to be out from the wall a good few inches anyway, and are pretty large. But after improving the amps, you may find the Kans give you all you want.

Check James' creation the Ergo IX's promoted on PFM, he makes a model designed to be used close to the wall. Maybe Steve, hi fi fo fum, can comment if he has had a chance to get a listen to them yet. There's a couple pairs floating around the UK, maybe you can get a listen.

Bob,

I am a great believer in Arros. I think they're fab speakers and such a big sound should never come out of such a silly little speaker, just like Kans.

However, you seem to really like your Kans and Arros do not sound like them. Yes, Arros are weightier, they respond well in most rooms, although hard up against a wall is probably not ideal. They have a slightly bright treble too, just like Kans - but they're not Kans. They're exuberant but with their oewn voice. If you really love your Kans, then i'm not convinced the Arro will do what you want. If your Kans are in good shape, then if you want more weight I would invest in an n-Sub - simple. If you're concerned about the condition of your Kans and would like some more delicacy and transparency then sure, consider Arros, but also consider n-Sats.

Regards,
Frank.
