I bought recently second hand 5i amp and cd player along with harbeth P3ES2 speakers. Very happy with the sound but I would also like to revisit my vinyl and in fact intend to but some more. Anyway, I have reading about turntables in the hi fi press and forums etc etc. I had intended to buy a second hand michell gyrodec which I think I could get for about £800 or so, or perhaps even an orbe, which would still be well under £1500.

Anyway, I read a very impressive review of the SRM arezzo in one of the hi fi mags the other week, so I was wondering if anyone on the forum had heard it and their thoughts, if so? One of the attractive aspects of this deck is that I could upgarde over time.

Thanks for any advice..... Smile

Well I saw this and obviously thought LP12, but as a dealer I thought I'd sit back and see if anyone else would offer some suggestions Andy!

Evidently, there can't be much else out there to recommend! Big Grin You'd be able to find a nice second-hand deck and upgrade it over time too..........

I'm sure that will get a response for you now Cool

I'll get ready to duck.

Kind regards,

Peter

Andy

For that sort of money, you really must consider an LP12. And not some old deck that needs loads of work/upgrades too.

Get a nice ex-dem example (perhaps in Maple and built by the good man himself), have a Hercules and s/h Ittok2 fitted on it and be happy!

Do you want to look at it or listen to it? Roll Eyes

If I bought a record player to look at, I wouldn't have one either!

Hi Andy
I have Arezzo deck no 5 at home via 122x and 150x and it really is something worth concidering. I know the forum here is lp12 nuts but this deck is also the ducks nuts. LP12 is fine if you aim for a classic, the arezzo is more modern in styling. I demoed the LP12, but was too pricy for me, the Arezzo base model is good enough and gets better with the upgrades available / just like Naim kit.
The company is a startup so a demo could be difficult but Stuart Michell, the owner is very approchable. Good luck

There are several good choices out there so even if this forums public opinion is LP12. It's a legend and very good but it does not suit for all. Can say this since have heard several old and new LP12's with different arms etc but it is not my cup tea even if I'd like it to be..

So if possible demo several decks and make your own mind based on that. Afterall you're the one listening the music with it aren't you.. Winker

Thanks Smile I'm sure everyone knows that even if I loved the look of a lp12 the decision wouldn't be solely in my gift..... So, it's probably a non-starter basically and I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder but the lp12 reminds me of the teak cabinets from the 1970s, if you know what I mean Big Grin .

True, the look is something. I too, was not so happy with the LP12 wooden thing, acrylic suits just fine as long as it sounds good....

Andy

You have a decent budget to spend on a good deck and while many on this forum will only look at an LP12 I'm one of a few who have heard a lot and never quite been able to get away with them. I know what they do and well understand people liking them but just not quite right for me.
As a result I have had a few decks but ended up with Roksan's for a long time, they are something worth considering and you should be able to pick up a secondhand Xerxes 20 if you look about. Alternatively the Michell Orbe would be worth having a look and listen to. Try tracking down a dealer who has a few in stock for you to listen to and you can make a good informed decision from there.

Good luck with your quest.

Dave

PS: If you are prepared to travel to North East England from sunny Aberdeen the chap in Hi Fi world has lots to listen to.
