quote: Not heard it at length, but I have heard quite a lot of Sugden amps over the years. One of my friends has an original 1969 A21, and another has a late 70s A48, I have also heard the later stuff at recent shows. The Sugden sound is smooth, clean, and (possibly too) well behaved - they are certainly far more relaxed / laid back in presentation than Naim / Densen etc. I consider Sugden to produce good electronics, they are certainly a class above the average. They have much better grip and musicallity than the slop monsters produced by the likes of Musical Fidelity and a lot of US stuff, though I would personally take Naim, Exposure, Densen, NVA and DNM over them. The Sugden sound is probably nearer to Electrocompaniet than anyone else I can think of off hand. It is great to see Sugden producing so much new stuff - I suspect they have far more products in their range now than at any time in their history. Tony Xmas, triple time, bored. |

I've briefly heard the Masterclass. They have a better grip on the music than any of the other Sugden amps. Good value too and receive my seal of approval.
I still prefer Naim or DNM. Andrew Andrew Randle |
