HELLO OUT THERE!

NOW ENTERING THE FORUM FOR THE FIRST TIME.
I HAVE READ TOPICS AND ANSWERS FOR SOME WEEKS
NOW AND I THINK IT`S GREAT!

MY GEAR TODAY CONSISTS OF CDI (ABOUT 6YEARS)
AND 72/180 AND AUDIOVECTOR M1 SIGNATURE.

THINKING OF UPGRADE TO THE NEW CD5 WITH FLAT-
CAP 2. HAS ANYONE TRIED THE FLATCAP 2 BOTH WITH
PRE 72 AND CD 5?

IS IT BETTER TO GO FOR A SINGLE HICAP FOR MY
PRE AND GO FOR A "NAKED CD 5" ? I`VE REALISED
THAT A 72 REALLY NEEDS SOME KIND OF SEPARAT POWER-
SUPPLY, BUT MAYBEE THE FLATCAP 2 WILL BE ADEQUATE.

REGARDS

Welcome to the forum,
The Cdi was/is is very good player, was better than the cd3, and probably better than a cd5 with flatcap, so that move is sorta backwards.

If your happy keeping the Cdi, go for a s/h hicap for the 72, that'll make a BIG difference. On another note what stands do you use ?, stands are, as more are beginning to realize fundamental to your system.

HI NAHEED,

I USE AS SUPPORTS PARTLY 5-SHELVES SOUNDSTYLE
TRIPOD AND FOR MY CD THE "TOPRATED" IKEA LAQUER-TABLE(SOUNDS BETTER THAN TRIPOD!!)
THANK YOU FOR YOUR OPINION. BUT MY MAIN ISSUE,
HAS ANYONE TESTED FLATCAP 2 WITH PRE 72?
(THERE`S NO DOUBT THAT THE CD 5 TOGETHER WITH THE FLATCAP 2 SOUNDS GOOD,(ALMOST LIKE A CDX ACCORDING TO MY DEALER) THE NEW 5-SERIES ARE NOT
AS SUPPORT SENSITIVE COMPARED TO CDI FOR EX.

I DON`T KNOW IF I`M HAPPY WITH MY CDI BUT I NEED
A MOORE TRANSPARENT SOUND WITH MORE FOCUS , WIDER
SOUNDSTAGE,CLEANER BASS AND LESS "CD-HARCHNESS"
(UPGRADE WILL COST!!!!)

BUT YOURE RIGHT , GOOD SUPPORTS ESP FOR OLDER PLAYERS ARE ESSENTIAL!

REGARDS

Hi Magnus!

My guess: if you add a HiCap to your 72, you'll get everything you want. The CDI still sounds formidable!!!

Magnus.

What is "floorbandy" (interest listed in your profile)?

Vuk.

P.S. A polite request to turn off your "caps lock" key--writing all in upper case is a net convention for yelling at people wink

Vuk,

Thanks for pointing out where my "caps lock" key
is.(Thought for a while I replaced it somewhere!?)

"Floorbandy" is perhaps a wrong definition, but
it`s an indoor game very popular in esp. Europe
Very similar to your favourite sport icehockey
but played with curved plastic sticks and ball.

Regards
Magnus

Hi Magnus
I went to a Naim demo 2 weeks ago.CD5 vs CDX and the CD5 with flatcap2 are not close to a bare CDX,I think.
The CDI is very close to the CDX .
So keep your CDI and put a slab of MDF board under it and the harshness will go away.
I also think the best upgrade is to get a Hi-cap
