I have just replaced my Roksan Caspian with a CDX and I am getting used to the new cd player. So the question is, how do I get the best results from the CDX?

The rest of my system comprises, 82/Hi-cap/180 and Ruark Equinox's.

I would also be interested in what speaker wires people really use and what they would recommend between the amp and speakers.

I really use NACA A5 and I really recommend it.

I have used others, QED Profile 4x4 (more expensive), QED Profile Silver (more expensive) and Cable Talk 4.1. I've even tried some kind of solid core but I don't recall the manufacturer. None were as good the the NACA A5.

Getting the best from the CDX? I'd suggest you get used to it for a time. Identify where you think it's lacking (if it is) and investigate supports, either metal or wood. Mine is on a home-made plywood rack and it sounds great. Making sure it's stable and level is a problem because of the wood I used but that's the only problem.

Don't listen too hard for problems, just enjoy it.

NB Howdy;

1. Mounting is personal choice; depending on what you prefer. It's only a matter of time before tone controls come back into fashion!

2. Use the Naim supplied interconnect. Other types are different as opposed to better.

3. When plugging in din plugs; steady the body of the plug before tightening the collar. This ensures that the plug is centered.

4. Keep the puck and drive 'platter' clean with blue/white tack.

5. Replace the input fuse and work it in and out a few times.

6. Get an XPS when you can afford it!

7. Feed it!

8. Get some 'new' A5 speaker cable. It is better.

NB,
Congrats with your new CDX. It's a great player. Give it plenty of time to break-in before you do anything, this takes time. I have the feeling that mine still improves after 3 months! (but I'm not sure, could be my ears getting used to it more too). Most of the break-in proces takes place in the first 2 to 3 weeks.

I agree with what the others said. Enjoy it and don't listen for problems to much might be the best of all as I feel a lot of audiophiles do this to much. NEVER turn the power off. It takes quite a while before the CDX (and other Naim players) is 'on-tune' again.

I don't like the NACA5 speakercable at all but this is very speaker-dependant. Search the old threads, there has been a lot of writing on this subject.

I generally don't care to play with the setup of my system much. After reading all the posts on setup of Naim equipment, and the CDX in particular, I decided to do a simple test. I still had a few cones laying around. Cheap, inexpensive, no name brand. I put two in front and on in back. The difference is obvious and changes for the better. The slight harshness is gone. The sound is altogether more coherent with more depth. Now, if there would be a way to improve bass, wow, that would be great!

Sorry, the stands thing doesn't ring a bell. I have never heard of Mana or such here in Switzerland.

Marcus,

Bass from the CDX? See the thread "A Vukwich?" for my suggestions on an air and glass vibration isolation system for the CDX. See my other posts for more details and comments. I get that taut articulate and tuneful bass out of the CDX with it. I am very pleased.

1. Try Nordost Pulsar points directly under each foot. Makes a great difference!

2. Never turn the power off.
