Can we please have a proper discussion of this? I do not mean to start an argument, but merely would like to hear what the concerns are that people have which are making Paul delete or alter messages and justify the use of the e-nanny part of this software. For example, I wrote båstards (could we please leave this intact for the purposes of the discussion?) and it got by the software, but then was removed by PS. In order to get the word to appear at all, I have used the "å" here, otherwise the forum software alters it to b******* automatically when the posting goes up. It strikes me that Namies are very mature and intelligent; to treat them like children is at best offensive. Furthermore, my experience here and on the old forum is that censoring leads to infinitley more discord and hostile exchanges than the use of any naughty word. How do others feel?

Vuk.

Vuk,
you must admit that this is a different approach to the censorship issue, rather than realising that censorship exists and writing words that you know would have been censored, and then complaining that you have been censored.
Should we call it 'the British approach'?

Stefano.

I will turn off the net nanny, watch what you say as civilised people and we won't touch it, please try to avoid bad language as topic headings as this upsets people and all will be ok,...... ok

Paul

I see the moderator therapy is doing the trick. Well done indeed.

Perhaps there could be a Naim CB channel for all the seditious / obscene conversation.

As an infrequent contributor to less heated threads, I was unaware of any censorship on the part of Naim. I must say that now that I know that it has happened I am quite displeased. Disgusted, actually. Frankly, I don't need any of Naim's moderators altering the language I choose to use, nor do I need to be protected from the harsh language of others. This is, after all, the internet, and I am not particularly offended or even concerned for my safety (hey, I live in the US) if someone in the forum calls me a bad name. Open, free discourse, however crude or nasty, is the best approach. Period.

My opinion of Naim has diminished significantly. The company should think about getting new moderators, or perhaps none at all. I simply cannot express my displeasure strongly enough without resorting to profane language. I choose not to do that simply because I do not want to, but I reserve the right to do so.

I saw Paul's posting about how he will turn off the nanny software. So what? There is still the possibility that it can be used again, and, of course, the moderators can alter the messages as they see fit. I'm simply flabbergasted that a company like Naim would take such an approach.

The only reason that I came to this forum at all was to discover new opinions and thoughts on Naim gear and music, and now I fear that I wasn't getting the unadulterated truth, and that I will not in the future.

Perhaps my FlatCap2 really will be my last Naim purchase, if I purchase it at all.

For all Vuk's rambling and idiosyncratic ideas and tastes - hey, he seems to be a big Wagner fan - I must say that that I agree with him on this one completely. In fact, he was simply too nice in his treatment of this issue.

For shame, Naim.

My Dear Todd. we do have over 600 contributors and we would like the chaps here to show some common sense. I do hope you purchase the flatcap 2, enjoy the product and see that we saw the error of our ways.

Chaps

The time has come for me to assert my aged maturity and as such I hereby invoke 10 rules for you all to observe.

1. No rude words such as those begining with B are ever to be used from now on. The use of such a word will render the offender to being made to sit on a Mana Table with 4 spikes protruding upwards. This will if nothing else produce an interesting sound.

2. No person ( other than me whilst composing this edict)shall mention Mana, how good it is, how ugly it is etc. Penalty as per edict No 1.

3. No person shall mock my wifes tea cosy's. Its not a very nice thing to do. The offender will be made to spend a night with my wife and believe me, chaps, you will not enjoy it. She has a cutting tongue. You would prefer to sit on the Mana.

4. No person shall say my top of the range piece of equipment is better than your little low end bit of kit. This also is not very nice and once again the offender will be made of puncture his bottom sitting on Mana.

5. No person (Vuk in particular) shall commence correspondance with endearing intro's such as "hey you." This is not very friendly and tends to cause much anger. Again the offender will be made to sit on a piece of Mana or if its really bad will have to sit on Vuk.

6. No person will criticise wooden cabinets that contains Hifi equipment. Extensive reading of this forum indicates to me that Mike Hanson and me are the only guys around hear with any degree of taste. Do not ubuse us please. Offenders will, once again, definately be made to sit on a piece of Mana

7. No person will start the old old old old boring subject of ferretic interference. This generates far to much heat. The offender will be clobbered by Vuk with my wife's Lecreuset frying pan whilst seated on a Mana platform.

8. No person shall threaten violence or make or issue threats against another forum member just because they said I prefer the sound of something else. This is not very friendly and upsets the Moderators. Offenders risk being blotted out by PS.

9 No person shall suggest daft tweaks such as draping rotting rugs over speakers of dumping wet towels on amplifiers. This can lead to divorce and fraction with wives/girlfriends of the other members who try these ideas out and this practice is to be frowned upon. The offender will be made to walk naked down his street with either a rotting carpet or wet towel over his head to to show what daft idea it is.

10. No moderator, irrespective of what sort of mood he is in, or how much whiskey he has drunk shall delete any offender unless they have committed one or more of the offences listed above. Each Moderator shall say to himself before pressing the button...." I really deep down love this Guy......I don't care that he slags off my product or tries to flog his own gear on my forum, he is OK and I love him." if after saying that little lot at least twice, you find that he still gets up your nose.......blast the bugger off the screen.

The 10 edicts listed above make good sense and I commend them to you.

Regards

Good natured, never offensive Mick

Hey you(5)

Mana is great (2), better than a tea cosy (3) on a woden cabinet (6) - ferrous metal stands rock (7). My 135s kick the bleedin' crap(1) out of a Nait (4), even one with a wet towel over it(9).

Disagree and I'll kick yer ass (8).

Over to you Paul S...(10).

Tony.

Tony.

You obviously just wrote that so you could be the first to spend the night with Mick's wife and her cutting tongue.

Seems pretty obvious. OCD over racks and tweaks. Proclamations of the greatness of Wagner's "music dramas." They sound like bloated operas to me. Of course, all operas sound bloated.

Hey, whatever floats your boat.

Todd.

You must have confused me with Greg. I am completely opposed to all "tweaks" (apart from the the glass top on a CDX).

Vuk -

Hey Mr. ball-nutter, MDF, plate under the speaker stand spikes, build your own X-frame, got a statue on top of your speakers dood.

And I NEVER suggested a WET towel. That would be dangerous. Just replace the fuses with bare wire.

i am of such a weak personality that i am discturbed by written swear words. funnily enough, the effect is not the same with spoken swear words -- i can take that -- sounds inconsistent i know.

some of the best contributions i have read on this forum did not have a single bleep in them. there are so many other very nice words in the english language i feel...

i hear a great big (oops, almost swore here!) yawwwwwwn...

enjoy...
