I'm thinking of buying a used Nait 5i and am wondering which speakers would be an ideal pairing with the Nait.

My budget is limited to $1300 Canadian and I need something with good bass extension to fill my large living room (17' x 24' or 5m x 8m).

Your help is much appreciated!

I have paired several PSB speakers with Naim and all sounded very good.

I'd try PMC GB1s.

I'm not sure that the PMCs or the Dynaudios will fall into my budget.

How about Epos M16 ($1200 used), Totem Rainmaker ($1100 new) or Rega R5's (used for $1200)?

Totem Arro's get my vote.. wonderful speakers, and Canadian made to boot. Diana Krall herself owns a pair.

Will they be enough (in terms of bass extension)to fill a large living room, though?

The Rainmakers are an awesome monitor.

I heard wonderful things from them despite being drastically underpowered by a small Cayin tube integrated.

The ONLY shortcoming of the Rainmaka' would be lack of grilles. which i think is sexy anyway.

Well perhaps the Rainmakers (which go down to 42 Hz) will do the trick, then.

How bad would adding an integrated sub, like a REL T3, be? Is that even a possiblity with the Nait 5i?

The first time I heard the Rainmakers it was actually with an REL sub. In NYC at Stereo Exchange.

Great Pairing.

The Rainmakers are slightly lean on the low end, and a sub would be a really good idea.

Lastly, keep in mind that they are fairly demanding as a 4 ohm standmount. I would give them everything you could.

Arro's?? No, not in my experience. Rainmakers, yes, sufficient, but not exceptional.

Add a sub to the Rainmakers and it will be awesome.

Take the extra money you would spend on a sub add it to you speaker money and buy a pair of Neat Motive 1's

PSB a Nait will help them but the speaker is confused to start with ..sorry.

Totem, don't care if they are Canadian they are muted.... don't care if Diana Krall has some put on some real music and they fall apart .. and for all you nay sayers put on some OZZY, or Shaggy.

Epos M16 well if you have trouble falling asleep go for them but you might be better off looking for Epos ES11 or ES12 .... stay away from the .2 versions

PMC GB1 ...better off looking for a pair of LB1's (still think this is the most musically right speaker PMC ever built )

Credo's would be alright if you can find some used.....

Failing all why not take more time and save up more money and buy something that you will keep for 10 years or so instead of trying to fit a price point...

totem staff or neat mystique. both small floorstanders with reputed good bass response/prat and efficient enough for nait 5i. have seen both for sale many times on canuck audio mart for around 1000. and being in a large market you should be able to locate some examples.

Thanks again for all your feedback!

I'm trying to stay within a strict budget, but every time I think of what I want, the Naim & Neat combo is all I can think about!

Ideally, I'd like to get Neat Motive 2's but maybe keeping an eye out for some used Mystiques is a good alternative?

Steve, I trust your judgement & we both seem to have the same taste in the way we like our music presented...would you recommend the Mystiques? Should I hold out for demo/used Motive 2's and save more money?

Cheers!

PS - I haven't heard a better combo than the day I walked into Hi Fi Fo Fum and auditioned Naim with the Motive 2's!

I'd try Naim n-Sats. They have an excellent reputation!

Enjoy your music,

I'm not too familiar with the Canadian $ but are you sure about this? How much are the TB2's in Canada?

Mind you, you will need a good pair of stands for the TB2's, so if you don't already have that then maybe a cheaper floorstander does make sense.

You've probably guessed my Nait5i drives a pair of PMC TB2's and the sound is so good you'll need to forgive me for evangelising a little!

My Nait 5i seems quite happy driving a pair of J.M. Reynaud Twin Signatures.
