Dear Friends,
As much in an attempt tp tidy up the cable mess, as actually to enhance the performance of my set, I bought a four way 30 amp mains junction box - high quality brass screw fittings crimp the wires together directly - from my local hardware store. The job of removing three Crabtree plugs and adding a short length of extra flex between the box and one of the Crabtrees took about twenty minutes and is actually only a little harder than wiring a plug in the first place. Result! Thought the effect is marginal, the music seems even less box-bound - freer. Thought I'd share that with you as so much gets written about it, and the idea is SO simple. It has also really tidied up the wire mess! Fredrik Fiske |

How simple can it be? My hydra consists of only 3 naim power cords. They share one mains plug /German Phonossophie/. This goes into a wall socket with a 10mm2 dedicated spur. The best hydra so far.

Dear Emil,
Is this a "special" plug with large connestions for the wires (and so on), as I am sure that you could not really get more than two flexes into one UK three pin Crabtree? Anyway I am not about to use a non-standard plug in the place of the Crabtree. On the effect, I posted the begining of the thread only minutes after firing up. I am not so sure the effect is marginal. It's rather good. More body and solidity somehow, or it seems like that. But there is not a cat in hell's chance of me doing a spur, at least at this house, but I've no doubt that there is something good in it if you can get it installed. Fredrik Fiske |
