I have an oldish system, all olive stuff, which has sat happily for many years just doing it's thing. However, recently, with no changes etc. it has started to select it's own source during the wee hours of the night. Consequently, when I go to play a CD, having left the source on CD from the previous night, I find that it might be on any source other than CD. What's happening, and what can I do about it? Your advice will be most gratefully recieved.

Possibly time for a service! Take it into your dealer for return to Naim for a look, it's unlikely to be anything too expensive. However, as you say "oldish" are we talking 10 years or there abouts? If so it might be worth using it as an excuse to send the whole lot back to base for a tune up!

Hi GraemeW

Firstly a very warm welcome to forum, your contentment may now end.

I had a very similar mystery with a 52 I was using some years ago now and it turned out that the problem was with my recently installed SKY+ which shared the same remote codes as the Naim Pre-Amp and it switched inputs, so that would be well worth checking. Naim of course had a fix for it so perhaps the best resolution for you might be to have your equipment serviced, make sure you let the dealer know about this problem IIRC it was “PIC” change in my old 52 and the service will restore your equipment to as good as new to boot

Hope that’s helpful

Warmest regards

I have a 102 and it is definitely the SKY remote which changes the input (and the balance knob!)

I live with it, didn't know there was a fix, not sure i'd pay for it tho'

Thank you gentlemen

the whole system is now about 10 years old or more, so a service could be a good idea, except that I would have to listen to my music in the car. Not recommended. Does it really make a noticeable difference?

Sky remote! I would never have thought of that. Later on, when I get to relax, I'll check that one out. However, as I said earlier, it does this thing all on it's own in the wee hours, when no-one is about. Weird!

Once again, many thanks
Graeme

Apart from remote code conflicts with other devices, a very common reason for bizarre component behaviour is usually because there's an RC5 coded remote that's slipped down into the cracks of a sofa or chair - any movement on said chair/sofa ends up with spurious commands being sent out...

Other than that, do you have a cat or dog or any other nocturnal creature that may be treading on the remote at night?

If your experience was posted in a journal of the paranormal this would be seen as strong evidence of poltergeist activity!

Richard, I have all my remotes. None missing down sofa's. No pets to play tricks on me. We have bats but they're too light to be able to operate a remote, and I mostly keep them out of the house.
Peter, makes you wonder doesn't it.
I've tried to replicate the problem with various remotes, but the strangeness doesn't happen, at least not when I'm looking. As JamieWednesday says, live with it. I guess I'll have to. At least now I know I'm not the only one who has this problem.
But a service wouldn't go a miss. I'll have to steel myself for that one though.

Thanks again folks.

It's a weird combination of buttons, like 'back up', 'select' and then something else...

I have had a similar experience with a serviced 52 pre amp. Some have suggested that the remote sensor may be affected by light. I am convinced that it is either my Sony TV remote or my neighbour's something or other.
