Dear friends,
Does anyone know how a Nait5i would behave with "power hungry" speakers like Dynaudio 52SE, for instance? Would these sort of speaker be a problem to the amplifier? Thanks, |

Welcome Rodrigo
Although the 5i is the baby of the Naim range; it is still a very capable 50 wpc amplifier. All Naim amps work well into difficult loads and sound more powerful than their specifications imply; so short of expecting things to go very loud, you should be OK. Do you have a local Naim dealer, where you can try your speakers on a 5i? |

Hi Rodrigo,
A few comments: While the Nait 5i is listed at a modest 50 wpc, the beauty of the amp is that it is able to supply a good amount of current. The transient capability is rated at 300VA putting it on par with a NAP200. So it should more than likely be able to power a speaker like the 52SE. My experience with Dynaudio speakers indicates that they perform better at higher volumes. At lower volumes the music sounds a bit less full of life. I have not heard the 52SE so I don't know whether or not that holds true with respect to that particular model. I would recommend that you audition such a combination (ideally in your house) before making an investment. All the best, Bill |

I'm driving a pair of Dynaudio Contour 1.8MkII's with an old NAIT5. Sounds good! I admit its not the best I've heard the Contours (heard on NAP500 - v nice) but the little amp deals with them very well. Have also used it to drive Contour 1.1's too!
I think the NAIT5i will be fine with the 52's! |

Unless you have a big room that you want fill with sound, then yes, it'll be fine. Drove my 52's very well in a 13x13 room. I understand the SE's are a slightly tougher load but the 5i shouldn't have any probs.
