Just seen a friends new 82, which other than the two rows of buttons looks very similar to my 102.

What I did notice was, the volume/ballance logo's and knobs had luminated logo's and level indicators, whereas my 102 doesnt.

Closer look at the 102 shows that it appears to have this, but they dont light up. Are they meant to?

No, the volume and balance controls don't light up on the NAC 102. It's down to cost I'm afraid.

When I had a 102, I cut strips of fluorescent stickies and stuck them to the grooves on the volume and balance dials. That way, I could tell at a glance and from a distance their relative settings. Quite useful for making sure I don't accidently blow up my speakers or wake the neighbours when I hit the play button on CD.
