I had started using Naim products since last 5 years. My first product was Nait 3 and CD3.
Later my upgrade is pre/power combo from Naim as well. The NAC42.5 and NAP140. I know that Nait 3 can be converted to NAC92.
Here are my questions.
1) Is that worth to convert the Nait 3 to NAC92, since I did not use the Nait 3 much. Which one will be sound better? NAC92 or 42.5.
2) I will do the upgrade myself. My suggestion is I will left the Nait 3 pre amp and power supply part. The power amp board will be take out.
The reason I'm doing this is the conversion of Nait 3 to NAC92 has its own power supply and NAP140 as well. Will this work?
3) Make another power supply to power up the Nait 3 power amp. and use NAC42.2 as a preamp part. Will this work?

Any suggestion are welcome.

I very much doubt there would be that much difference between the Nait 3 as preamp compared with the 42.5. It is worth more to you as an item to sell.

To upgrade I would either try and sell the Nait and buy a HiCap, or sell both the Nait and the 42.5 and buy a 102. Depends how much cash you want to throw at it, and how far you want to go.

In Malaysia 102 is very expensive.
I could not afford to upgrade anything yet except my self conversion. Furthermore there are not much HIFI shops selling Naim products and some even did not know where Naim;s from.

I would sell the Nait and buy some music then.

It is also worth noting that certain capacitors in the 42-5 140 will probably need replacing by now, so I would try and get in touch with the Malaysian Naim dealer or importer for a rough indication of cost. Search this forum for recapping for further details.
