I remember reading on the old forum that Naim periodically "exercises" the transport mechanisms that it keeps on hand for repairing older CD players. Does anyone have a guess what would happen if you left your Naim CD player a year without using it (other than withdrawal)? Do you think it would need a tune up at Naim or do you think the transport mechanism would be junk?

Thanks.

If you don't exercise the transport it will seize up.

A new one will then be required.

Some of the transports for old players are getting in short supply. The only source of transports for CDS-I, for instance, are those removed from old players being upgraded to CDS-II spec!

Same goes for the later CD2 ones. A different transport with servo board must be used at almost 3 times the cost.

cheers, Martin
