So with a CD5X/202/200 and a Flatcap2x or Hicap2. Do you:

a) Power the NAC202.
b) Power the CD5X.
c) Power both (Flatcap2x only).

I am soon to conduct this difficult experiment, but would be interested in others views.

Dave:

HC/NAPSC: 202/200
CD5x: FC2x

HC too much for the CD5x and the 202 really needs the HC.

Sorry, hope you have both!!

I have a 202/NAPSC/200/CD5X/FC2X/HC.
I use the FC2X on the 202 and the cd5x and because i use a lp12 the HC is on my Prefix.
If i did not have the LP12 the HC would be on the 202.
If you dont have a NAPSC you must try one.
It has a nice long lead so you can put it a long way away from the rest of your kit.

Indeed. The 202 needs a napsc too.

For a while, I had a cd5x/202/napsc/200 and a single hicap. I spent a few weeks playing with the hicap positioning, and I thought that the bare cd5x plus 202/Hi sounded a LOT better than the cd5x/hi + bare 202.

First of all the 202 sounded just magical with the Hicap, so when I took it off everything just sounded flat and lifeless. Secondly, I thought the HC was just too much power supply for the cd5x... made the presentation unpleasantly muscular and overpowering.

Obviously best would be to have a HC for your 202 and a FC2x for your 5x (this is what I had till very recently). If you only end up with one PS, I'd get a hicap. If you end up with just the one FC2x, then use it to power both.

Also, if you haven't got a NAPSC yet, I would strongly endorse the other suggestions about getting one -- relatively cheap and smooths out the rough edges on the 202 by removing noise from the audio circuits.

Of course, IMHO, YMMV and all the other acronymic caveats... only way to to really decide is to audition. Happy listening!
