Interesting Geoff! I was totally unimpressed with the Chord Signature when we tried them on the Amati's together! The naca were the winners hands down in my case. In a way you have spent money on Fraim bases and on cable for nothing, but I think you are happy with the new arrangement? I must say that I like the 500 sitting alone on a small Fraim between the speakers....looks pretty good Regards, Edouard |

re: - your interest in DIN - XLR signal leads.... As I mentioned I am using this bespoke Silver cable which gives an excellent result. Somewhere in the sequence of events I had the 500 back in it's normal place in the system Fraim running off the standard short Naim DIN - XLR's. I compared the 6.5 meter long Silver DIN - XLR's 'coiled up behind' the 500 and they sounded quite a bit better even in that 'bad' situation. My conclusion inevitably is that you can improve quite a bit on the Naim standard DIN -XLR's by using one or other of today's quality signal wires. I do hope that Naim bring out a 'HiLine' DIN-XLR because there is significant musical value in doing this. I would expect that Chord Indigo would be a similarly effective DIN-XLR upgrade. As to running with long leads see my following post. regards Geoff |

Hi, Sorry for late reply, but I arrived back from Rome earlier this morning - looking after Andrea's system. No exact date, but I hope it's not too long. I'll research and report back when I'm able. Kind regards, Peter |

I take it that such cables would be compatible with amps in the Naim range other than just the 300 and 500..

....not so Edouard. I ran a trial as I said earlier by 'stealing' Fraim shelves from my existing racks at little cost since I also had the long DIN-XLR's on loan to demo. If it had proved less than worthwhile I would not have gone 'all the way'....but there were significant musical reasons for this IMO. Quite a few of us have concluded that having free space around the 552 by siting on the top of the rack has audible advantages over its' performance lower down in the rack even with 'spaces' in the configuration. To my ears something similar goes on when you arrange the 500 in the same way. There is a strong impression that the dynamic range widens in a subtle way. The clarity and snap with which transients are produced and the cleaness and punch in the bass sound are audibly better. Imaging seems improved and there is a feeling that the 'live experience' is a little closer approached. OKAY!....be aware this is in my system and room layout / construction and speaker type etc etc ..... I am not suggesting this is something for general adoption. It is quite possible that I am kidding myself and I do feel it requires advanced quality signal wires to 'pull it off'....so NOT a recommended thing to do unless you enter into it aware it might not be a success for you. Personally it has brought me a step up in musical performance I feel worth the effort.....Oh yes, including the use of what Roger calls Toblerone Regards Geoff |

...and visually it looks quite nice, it has brought you a step up in aesthetical performance as well Regards, Edouard |

Edouard....your'e right it does have a nice symmetry. It is also quite nice to see the 500 'beast' in the spotlight so to speak rather than off to the side with the rest of the system. regards Geoff |
