Ha Ha Nuno, nice one.

Why don't you try a few and let us know what you think? I suspect you know full well what people here are likely to say about not using the standard lead.

Hi Nuno,

Personally, if I were trying to improve on the performance of my CD5 I would be auditioning a CDX2.

But why not a try a change of mains cable and as Steve says, let us know what you find.

Regards, Chris

I did try a Russ Andrews Classic Power chord just because it on was laying around from my non Naim days and it sounded worse.

Now that Naim have a new power chord I suspect people will be looking at upgrade mains leads,to my ears the Powerline is the only one that I have listened to that works but still will have to try at home in my system,as and when it becomes available...due September.

I also share the view of Christopher_M,listen to a cdx2.Best wishes,Mike

I use Powerigel with CD5 (and the rest of the kit) and it´s pretty okay. At least it´s not ruining the timing or anything...

I don't agree...two very different machines.

Hi Jeff,

I didn't try to suggest that they weren't two different machines. I was trying to suggest a positive, value for money performance improvement on the CD5, albeit one clearly far more expensive than a possible change of mains cable.

Have you any suggestions as to how Nuno might get more from CD?

Regards, Chris

Hi Nuno,

I do not speak from experience, I must be honest, but I have in good faith, been told by a very reliable source who knows a thing or two about Naim, that Nordost power cables can produce pleasing results with Naim equipment, particularly if you have the complete Naim chain. Might be worth a look if no further suggestions are forthcoming! Good Luck.

OK guys thank you for the answers!
I think Christopher is right,if I want to improve my source auditioning a CDX2 might work!
However I will try a Qed Qonduit on Naim, but I guess many of you told me tnat the standard lead is just fine and probably are right!A weeks ago I swapped the power lead of my amp for a Qonduit and worked very well! The sound is much more refined and the timing and rythm improved also!

Nuno

Did the CD5 come with the new Tibia power lead?

I really like the CD5 w/flatcap2....It's voiced similarly to the CDS' series.
The CDX2 sounds very different if you know what I'm getting at.

I've had both prior to my CDS2/XPS2 combo.
Anybody care to guess why I have the XPS2? Eek

The Tibia leads are NANA sourced items (for the US only) and are not supplied in the UK or Europe.

Cheers

Just put two gerbils on the wheel this will double your current.... no need to play with the A/C cord then. Smile

Hi again Nuno,

I have two zero-cost CD5/FC2 tweaks that may appeal to you as an economist, they certainly appealed to me.

Turn the power off, then take the interconnect of your CD5 out of the player. Then push it back in again. Then out again and in again. Now a few times more. In fact, why not do it for every socket with a connection on it, even including the mains plugs at the wall.

Try the CD5 on output A of the FC2 if you have not already done so.

This isn't a tweak but I assume your CD5 is stood on its own shelf with nothing either on top of it, or it stood on anything else, for instance, on top of your FC2.

Sadly for both of us, none of this will take our CD5s to CDX2 territory but think of the savings!

How are you getting on with your mains lead quest?

Regards, Chris

I tryed the QED on the CD 5 and after the Naim power lead on it,too. The results with the Naim power leads are much better.I think the reason is that Naim, unlike other manufacturers cares about the mains lead and do a few tests! Winker

Thanks for correcting me Jim. You know your stuff. (p.s. drop me an email when you have a chance)

The Tibia leads definitely make an improvement over the older ones that came with my CB and olive gear.

Rui

My feeble attempt at a joke as I moved from the CD5i-->CDX2-->added XPS2-->CDS2 head unit.

I preferred the XPS2 to the original XPS (although fairly minor differences)
