What I mean here is - and I apologise for my naivety - but can you go active with your NAP300s and Amatis??
Perhaps that is not possible, but what about adding a really high quality sub-woofer that matches the Amatis?

Jon,

You can't go active with the Amati's, those speakers got an awesome high end cross over that achieve to deliver the music with such a perfect balance that you just don't want to mess it with anything, and certainely not with a sub-woofer...
I wonder sometimes about the quality of Naim speaker's passive crossovers...

I know there are very happy people with active system on the forum, but none of the friends I know personally have told me good things about the active Naim systems like 552/500/500/500/DBL, they had the chance to listen to...which of course doesn't prove anything, however I like to preserve some simplicity to my set up, it matches better the utter beauty of the Amati Anniversario Winker

Actually the music I get at home is an hifi nirvana (for me) it has annhilate even an ounce of upgraditis! This is good only for today July 2nd 2008 of course Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

One of my good friend on the forum, a very well known person here, a 500 owners, recently wrote me:
"I am not sure you would like what the 500 does and it may just tip the balance of your system and SF's. The 500 is ultimately Naims best amp but the 300 has a sense of ease and effortless that you seem to like. "

I have listened at length and so many times to bigger Naim systems with 555, 500, DBL, SL2, and more, none of them made me feel like "this is a Hifi nirvana!"

For me the 300 naturalness and effortless sound is priceless. But as I mentioned before, the key is the magic equation between the room/speakers/electronic, get that right and you'll have a Big Grin on your face Winker

Of course if the Goddesses are in the equation...you're in heaven for good Big Grin

Regards,
Edouard

Surely the delights of Melton exceed those of Paris? What can you be thinking of?

Hope you enjoy your stay.

Mt Rainier was a bridesmaid in August 2006 when my partner and I (with our friends) renewed our wedding vows on the 25th anniversary summer of that original occasion. We were in a small accessible (ie no harm) gravel area near Sunrise Lodge (6,400 ft) with the mountain as a backdrop. My original best man is now a judge and performed the ceremony on a glorious day. (this is a file photo of a similar day - we were on the opposite side of the lodge with little but the mountain behind us)

The goddess Rainier and the Goddess Amati. You live a good life, Edouard. Thanks for sharing pieces of it.

Edouard,

I have to thank you for giving me an idea with regard to preserving my Naim system!

I noticed that you put sheets on top of your hifi, which is a great idea as it stops anyone getting ideas!!

That is precisely what I will do to my system!!

As a side question, I noticed that you like Jazz music from your profile. I think you are fortunate here as I've noticed that most HDCD recorded CDs and other great recordings in SACD are of Jazz music!! I unfortunately don't have a taste for Jazz, but I guess your gorgeous system is further blessed by gorgeous recording fidelity!

Kind regards,

Jon

Excellent photo's Edouard, I like the one with the mountains in the background with snow on them. Just my kind of place.

It would have been interesting to have tried your Amati's on the end of Franks system.

Maybe when peter drives the DBLs down to Frank we could pick them up on the way Big Grin

Good to see you are enjoying your vacation,

Regards

PB

Jon,

I wonder which other speaker makers provide dedicated speaker covers, made on measure, to protect the speakers when leaving for vacation?

Bonsoir PB!

You want to tweak the Amati's in order to have them work in the active way?? You would need a 3rd 300 unit for that matter Smile
Amati's + 300+ tweaking...expensive Smile

Is Franck interested in the DBL? He'll need a extra 300 amp I guess Eek

What's spectacular here is the combination of the Pacific ocean + the mountains covered with snow!
...and weather is great as well! Big Grin

Yeah, yeah yeah rub it in, Big Grin we have rain for a change!

I am sure Frank could lend you his 250 so you would have three amps, then all you have to do is tweek the crossover, easy lol

Frank did mention DBL's on our long weekend, now that would be a fun weekedn getting DBL's to him, setting them up and then getting them back home again, good luck Peter Big Grin

congrats, Edouard, and all the best to you and the friends that you had "dazzled" with good quality music...

since i've recently upgraded to a system on the same direction as you, although some big scales lower, i have one technical question for you, which is more of a curiosity, and not a bothering fact at all: does you system hiss when powered up and no cd playing... you know, that innerent electronic noise which is quite hard to hear but becomes somewhat audible close to the speaker...

BTW, the resolution of my new system is that high that i am starting to make differences between variuos degrees of quality of the recorded music... some discs which i thought flawless but very flat have now some technical parameters a little not ok, but the overall musical quality has grown a lot inspite of it, so did the reality factor...

it happens with a lot of cd's that i had this opinion before: seemed ok technically, but quite clinical... and now the technology limitation is revealed but the musical and enjoyment factor aside has hugely increased!!!

quite some revelations with these good systems...

regards,
Catalin.

thank you gary! it is not a bothering fact at all, and to me is not a criteria, i've seen amps going totally mute when powered on but sounded so dam' bad, and amps that do not hide their hiss and sounded just great and musical...
so no worries about it... i just wanted to check to see if i have similar system behaviour with you guys... thanks again!

Hi Edouard
A very close friend and I lead 3 rookies to Rainier's summit in July. Your goddesses, in spite of their beauty and majesty, cannot compete. Rainier however hits the highs well but misses out on the mids and lows!

Catalina,

I can't hear any hiss or humm from my system even if I stand close to the speakers...unless my wife is using the hair dryer...For most of the time I don't have any problem with hissing or humming.

Thanks for your kind words,
Regards,
Edouard
