Reads like its not a new format, but just a bonding of two existing formats (DVD-A and DVD).
So no new harware is needed to play these disks, provided you have a DVD-A-capabable player. - GregB Insert Witty Signature Line Here |

I read it as DVD-A & CD.
Plays on your existing CD player, with upgrade to DVD-A when you have one of those. Basically the same concept as dual-layer SACDs. cheers, Martin E-mail:- MartinPayne (at) Dial.Pipex.com. Put "Naim" in the title. |

I think I read somewhere [maybe Hi-Fi News] that the spec for DVD-A and CD-audio means that any dual layer disk will be too thick ...
DVD-A must be in thickness range a to b CD must be in range c to d So min thickness of dual disk is (a+c) but that is thicker than d -- so could jam James H. |

quote: so a disk which will play in a cd player or a dvd player - the one thing that sacd could do that dvd couldn't. hopefully this will mean the death of sacd so we can all get back to listening to music. cheers julian |

Fantastic! First it's the pirates and now it's the rest of us who are responsible for squeezing record company profits because we won't chuck out our records and replace them every ten years. Well boo bloody hoo.....
