Well..my system comprises of a CD 3.5,NAC 92,TWO NAP 90'S TWO FLAT CAPS AND A IXO. RUNNING A PAIR OF CREDO'S.
It was strung together with chord cable...A recomendation of the dealer. The thin is it just isn't happening at the moment and I have to say, it never really has...At first I thought it sounded great, and when the dealer is in your front room setting up...I think i was pehapps a little, well, impetious.
Any suggestions to up grade to deliver the full experience.?

What do you object to in the sound? What kind of music do you listen to? Where are the speakers located in relation to walls and funiture? Carpets? Drapes? What do you value in sound - PR&T, dynamics, timbral accuracy, transparency, etc.?

How long have you had this system? If you got it yesterday, it needs to warm up more.

Did you listen to systems with different funds allocations before you bought?

I would think that the 2 flatcaps, IXO, and 2 NAP90s could have translated into a 72/hicap and at least a 140, if not a 102/hi/180 or 72/hi/250. I lived with a 62/140 for 4 years, and a 62/hi/140 for a year loving virtually every minute I listened.

If you can provide more detail about your difficulty, it'll be easier to provide diagnosis and recommendations. Not necessarily good ones, of course.

Regards.

Phil

Hi Harry,

Welcome to the forum. I see no reason why your system should not sound very good, eventually. How long have you had your kit & do you keep it permanently powered up? A system like yours will take at least 1 full month to settle & burn in.

A few people may question going active with a 90, but I have heard an identical system, except Intros & not Credos sound very musical. The one thing I must query is using Chord cables. I have tried a few different types over the years, but have yet to find anything as good as Naim's own.

I'm sure a few will, quite rightly, start to recommend a good equipment support. I use Hutter & to my ears they are the best, but others may have different ideas.

Check a few out & try them at home.

Good luck,

Bob.

Chord is Naim all but in Naim, sorry, name, being based in Salisbury also, I believe (forgive me the crap What Hi-fi joke!)At my dealer we did an A/B test between Chord Rumour cable and Naim NACA5. The Chord was more spacious, obviously "hi-fi". The Naim was much more musical. PRaT was absent with the Chord. However, I prefer Nordost Solar Wind to Chord Chrysalis( supplied with Naim CD players.

harry,

Did you hear a system that sounds better than Naim?

You know, there is no law against purchasing
stereo system not manufacturing by Naim...

Harry,

Personally I'd try the Naim interconnects first - you should have them all except speaker cable.

Speaker cable really should be NACA5, this cable is designed as part of the amplifier output circuitry and whilst others can be used, by using NACA5 you will hear the amp working as Naim intended.

Despite the comments above, Naim only recommend Chord cables for situations where they don't provide a solution themselves (i.e. phono - DIN leads).

Additionally things will improve if the system is very new, but your dealers recommendation to ditch the Naim interconnects is dubious, to say the least. I guess profit margins are quite high on specialist interconnects wink

The most important thing you should be doing though is talking to your dealer, that's why he's there. If he has any desire to maintain a long-term relationship with his customers, he will need happy ones! Explain the above and try the interconnects that Naim would recommend i.e. their own. If this doesn't work he should be able to help you find a solution. If he cannnot, I would consider going elsewhere in future.

Andy.
