No, a record sounds good on an LP12 Big Grin

More, seriously, I would not go there. If your Linn mat is not in peak health then go to your Linn dealer and buy a brand new one. When you get it home, mat it (search for matting) and enjoy!

It is specifically made for the LP-12 and I would highly recommend you hear the difference. There is a very extensive white paper that supports how it alleviates vibration. The Linn felt does nothing.

It might be made for the LP12 ,But its not made by Linn.
If your LP12 is set up correctly all you need is a Linn felt mat.
If you have had your mat for over a year it might be a good idear to get a new one.
And as said in the above post Mat it.
This means test both sides of the mat because one will sound better.

No it doesn't, Half Man Half Biscuit records sound much better IMHO.

Sorry - Rotf

BTW I consider Linn to be an honourable manufacturer and firmly believe if its designers could make the TT sound better by simply offering an upgrade mat then they would have done it, say the the Linn Matik for £<insert sum of cash here>.

I did read about some extensive research at a University that was done on best materials for TT mats, after trying lots of exotic materials the conclusion was: felt. Cork does seem the ideal material to me, but felt seems to be what sounds best. I remember the test used a Linn system and relied on statistical analysis of listening tests, but I've no idea where to find the article I read, it wasn't recent.

Now where's my record clamp, ah there it is on top of the mains conditioner Smile

If you found that, I would politely suggest your deck may need setting up. A new mat is a nice improvement on an old shrunken or distorted one. Plus, LP12 felt mats are "sided" so it's worth listening to the mat both ways up and deciding which way you prefer. I then mark the underside for future reference just incase it detaches it's self when changing LPs.

As for the ring mat: well each to their own, but I don't use one, or have any intention to do so. An Achromat works better than the ring anyway, but they both mess up what an LP12 is all about. - As I said.... With respect. Each to their own. Roll Eyes

Kind regards,

Peter

Don't know, haven't tried it but the Linn felt-mat sounds better in my ears than the Achromat/Achroplat on my LP12......
