I'm sure that Naim have done a wonderful job of building both their phono stage and internal boards for their pre-amps, but...
Is it better to upgrade to a posher pre-amp (I have a 92, but thinking 72) OR buy yet another box of electronics (phono stage). My gut feel is that it would be yet another box and interconnects etc and I would be better off stumping up for a better pre (would also help the CD input). What do others think? Jon. |

Hi Jon. you're asking a lot of questions on different threads but I've yet to see anywhere that you tell us your complete system - could you oblige please?
To sort-of answer the question you ask here, a 'posh' external phono stage will probably/generally be better than the internal cards, but the best approach *for you* might be different depending on whether you've got an ancient Dual with 20 yr old cartridge held together by parcel tape, or a fully kitted out LP12 or any other combination. Good point!
I've got a Rega3/Elys/92/FC/90 going through JM Lab Cobalt 816's. In the short term, I intend on upgrading the Rega's motor and arm wiring. In the longer (and I mean longer!) term, a well-tempered or Orbed Gyrodeck is on the cards. More advice now please... |
