I have a few items of olive green equipment on which the black paint on the casing has been slightly stratched over the years down to the bare metal.

any ideas of the best product to touch up or I should I just leave well alone?

as always, any advice appreciated.

Gordon

I've been using the waterproof Edding 3000 marker,on a Nait-2.

Available in many book/office supply stores,
for peanuts money. Smile

Would be nice if Naim could provide the real thing in a nail varnish type container.

Any reason why not?

I use a spray-paint wrinkle coat at work and it looks great. I'd try it on the bottom to see how well it blends and you may want to lightly hit the entire side where the scratches are to hide the transition.

any home/hardware store should carry a similar product.

Black wrinkle paint is commonly used by Harley Davidson motorcycle customisers and restorers if you can't obtain it at local paint outlets. I searched for literally years before someone gave me this information in quite another context.

Multiple coats and heat are apparently necessary to obtain a good wrinkle. Failure to heat after spraying results in a poor finish without much wrinkle. I am quoting the expert customiser. I have not tried using it myself. One assumes any paint stripping gun would provide the necessary heat.

Unless you can borrow the oven at a local factory that uses paints to finish their products? Ovens are commonly used to speed up drying and to allow proper extraction of the (often nasty) solvents involved.

I have used wrinkle spray paint only recently. I havea MGBGT and needed to touch up a mettle vent on my dashboard. It is very easy to use though you do have to use it in a warm environment and you apply only two coats but in a short time span and then leave to dry. My only comment might be that it is a very glossy finish and it would look very different to the finish Naim apply. Personally I would not do it unless I had little to loose ie it is an old product that is worth little in trade in value. I would also add that Hammerite black is a BIG NO NO!!! that really would look naf.

Seconded on the avoidance of Hammerite hammer finish paints I'm afraid. Completely unlike Naim's finish in texture and shine. I'd also be loath to try the wrinkle finish aerosol too. It's just too fine and even a texture. (from what I've seen)

Has anybody actually asked Naim what they can do for worn paint on cases? It's hardly rocket science sliding a repainted sleeve over the fiddly bits and tightening a few screws. It wouldn't even need a dealer to be involved however cack-handed you are with a scrwewdriver.
