I got my new ( and first Naim ) system delivered and set up at the end of last week and spent the weekend rediscovering my CD's, trying out the mac/supernait dac, and generally enjoying it - the extra detail you get in music and voice is lovely.

Just waiting for it to burn in properly, and figuring where best for the speakers

Congrats Barrie.

Stating the obvious but keep in mind that Naim gear takes AGES to brake in (btw, is it brake in or burn in?). Just out of the box it tends to sound great but after a day or two the yo-yo cycles start.

My new gear is cooking for some 2 months now and occasionally it still sounds (very) off and then miraculously recovers again. Unnerving process at times. Smile

Hi Richard,

Yeah, I remember you bought CDX2/282 (and 200?), weeks ago. So, sound is still isn't stabilized? Anyone told you how much does it take to settle down completely?

Thanks,
Oz

Thanks for comment on the burning in time, I am leaving the CD5x playing on rpt whilst I am at work so hopefully that should help, and as as I have my CD, DVD and TV running through the Supernait and Tempos, these should burn in a little quicker - as long as it's "close enough" by Christmas I'll be happy.

Christmas tunes/ carols/songs whilst preparing /eating our Christmas lunch is an essential part of the atmosphere Smile

Hi Oz,

Nope... Just had a severe 'bad hair weekend'. My rig sounded really off up to a point that I started checking cables etc. Before leaving for work this morning things seemed to be clearing up again. I hope... Roll Eyes

I don't know how long the brake in period is officially. If there even is such a thing. Over time the up and down swings gradually get further apart and less profound. Weird stuff.

Hi Barrie,

I have the same CDP and amp as you, getting on for two months now. I really do not what you mean about re-discovering music. Previously I was listening to a lot of music from the itunes store through an Arcam solo (not a bad piece of kit for it's size) and Bose speakers, and I wondered why I never just sat and listened to music like I used to!!!

It has been so nice to get home from work, spend the night listening to great music (which sounds fantastic) and not watch re-runs of American TV!!! I also think the DAC in the S/N is great - I have some flac files I bought from the Linn music store and they sound amazing.

Hope you continue to enjoy your new kit.

Thanks Guys,

The Tempos are - Audio Physic Tempo VI speakers.

Same as you Rich, I also do run music through the mac using an Ipod touch as a control, it's fine for when you are sitting with friends and dont want to hop-up to keep changing dics, plus it's good for podcasts and internet radio Smile
However, I do enjoy sitting down and listening to the Cd5x, it does sound a little warmer to my/our ears. I haven't tried the flac, I'll give it a go though( Now I just got to figure out how to get the funding for an HDX next - d##n this upgrade-itis )
