Hi everybody,

have been offered a mk1 pair for £275 gp and will be using them in a relatively small room.
Has anyone had experience with these speakers as i`m told they are a very musical design. What would be the best stands for them also ?
I do like my e14`s but they are a bit much for my small room.

Any reply`s welcome

cheers

eddie

system is cds/52/supercap/250/epos 14

Eddie,

These are a cracking little speaker and I have always enjoyed listening to them and with your setup they should sound stunning (they work really well with Naim kit). The only thing that may be a problem is there placement as I have only ever heard them away from the rear wall.

Sounds like a bargain to me.

hi eddie why not try epos 11 .you say you like the
14s .11s are much the same as the 14s but will work in a much smaller room. i have tried petites
in my room 8'x10'but found the 11s beat them
in every respect.

regards yuri

Yuri, I like your choice of amplification - but in my experience the 250 does remarkable things with the Petites. The 180 is better suited to the 11s.

I have a friend who had the exact same system as you and this thing happened with the 250 and Petites slotted in.

Eddie, try the IBLs also. They are very good. If you sit too close to the speakers, raise them up some, maybe with the Mana SBL stand.

hi vik
just thinking back now ,when i first tried the neats i loved them to bits (had them on a weekend
demo)so much so that i bought them .but after about a week they started to distract me some what .untill a point where i only heard the
speakers not the music.i then put the 11s back
in and music filled my room again.

hi eddie if you are any where near birmingham
let me know and i will let you try my neats and
11s on your system.

ps. still have the neats.open to offers please e-mail.
regards yuri.

cheers Yuri,

that`s a really kind offer but unfortunately I live miles away. I have had e11`s and liked them but found them to be a bit bass shy.
by the way what stands did you use for the petites ?
e-mail me for the price your asking for them

cheers

eddie

Hi Eddie

In a small room and with a system as good as yours,I really would try the IBLs.They arent the last word in bass extension but for speed and sheer musical communication they can be unbeatable.

Best of all is that a lot of people sell them pretty cheaply.Usualy because either their system isnt good enough or they dont set them up well enough. The Mana stands strike me as a great idea.

Hi Eddie,

I have used petites for many years now. I started with them on Linn Sara stands and then put the Gravitas under them.

Prior to that I used IBLs which I thought were brilliant speakers (with some severe limitations) but preferred the Petites when I switiched to them as they had a bit deeper bass, a smoother treble and made the music more enjoyable.

petits have great treble but i have never had the bottom end 100% to my satisfaction. the best stands i have heard them on were some custom aluminium ones. i can find out their name if you want.

Neat auteur Bob Surgeoner recommends the Kudos S-100 as the best sounding stand under the Petites. And before any hi fi cynics weigh in with "of course he would, he owns Kudos", Mr. Surgeoner made that recommendation in a conversation that occurred long before Neat bought out Kudos.

Hi,

I really dont know how the treble of the neats was better than the IBLs.As I said earlier the IBLs are incredibly sensitive to what they are fed with and how they are set up,

My experience with these speakers was that they had a better top end than the SBLs.The bass is admittedly light but when everything is right it is tighter and more informative than almost any speaker I have heard.

I would have thought that the majority of people on this forum would value musical communication and exitement over such artefacts as deep bass or smooth treble. If youve ever been in a room with a drum kit I think youll find that it doesnt sound very smooth or nice but you can hear every subtle detail of how a cymbol is played. That to me is what we are trying to achieve with a Hi Fi system.Really the thrill of it all.

"As I said earlier the IBLs are incredibly sensitive to what they are fed with and how they are set up"

exactly why I suggested the IBL after seeing his system
