So...let's get back to the original point of the thread...

It seems there are three issues that need addressing...

1) The display issue
2) The output issue
3) The brief muting when starting a track.

I have experienced 1 and 3 occasionally ...but never 2.

These are presumably software problems... and I don't think we should link these with mechanical/electrical failures which can happen with any piece of equipment no matter what the price of it is.

In every case, we must applaud Naim for the speed with which these latter problems are resolved, which gives all of us owners great peace of mind.

Let's hope that these little glitches can be ironed out with a software update.

One other thought crosses my mind....is this happening with 555's recently built...as mine was one of the early ones supplied with a Flash remote?

Hi, as the evil dealer (hi Dark Bear, welcome to the forum!) I can assure you that this is not a forgotten issue. Naim are fully aware and are trying to resolve.

DB and we fully expect (and will get, I'm sure) a resolution. In the meantime, he does not want to relinquish the existing 555, so why should he?

The lid has been calibrated twice since the purchase.

I haven't had many *quarks* with the unit aside form refusing to read few discs. ( mainly SACD hybrid type )

I haven't had any problems with a CDS3, either.

Considering many new CD players I have purchased over the years had some defects, especially with first generation machines, I am amased higher end Naim players have been performing flawlessly. To be honest, I was expecting some catastrophic failure! <knock wood. It hasn't happened!>

The trouble with a Forum like this, any glitches are likely to be reported more so than what's running normally.

So long as manufacturers acknowledge and respond to a problem to owners or dealer's needs,I see no problems with it.

I found that it's not uncommon particularly for higher performance equipment to have few unexpected operating *niggles* in their early production cycle, since tolerance seems to be set tighter.

Hi Garfield

I posted a response to kill of the inevitable barrage of claims that this was a 'troll' posting dishonestly. He is not, and I cannot blame him for raising the issue further.

We are on excellent terms with "Darke Bear" and the ongoing skipping problem is indeed embarrassing. It is a fault that I personally have only been able to trigger after a considerable period of listening when disks are played, at least predominately, all the way through. When it happens, you can even mistake it for a 'fluff' in the recording, or maybe a mark on the disc. It is, however, real.

The output change issue is not something we have been able to replicate. We get plenty of calls from customers who have fumbled with the handset and changed the output setting but this is different. I'm sure this list of issues will be useful to the product designers.

As for this machine, the development team are fully aware and Darke Bear is sufficiently in love with his CD555 to want to wait for a bug fix. ALL other avenues have been open to him at all times.

Sorry if I sound defensive!

I suspect I know the identity of Mr Bear, and he's a good guy, certainly no troll.

A difficult and elusive problem, which I'm sure between Naim and The Signals boys will eventually be resolved.

Hi Alastair/DB,

I can fully understand the frustration you are experiencing at present. As Tony says, you have a difficult and elusive problem, but one which will eventually be resolved.

BTW DB, as I commented earlier, you have a cracking system similar to mine apart from a different choice of speakers. I imagine that bricks driven by a trio of 300s is something else!!

I confirm my non-Troll status - thanks Alastair!

The reason I kept the present 555 unit, is that I drew the conclusion that the faults were present in all units, and as the latest one from Naim did otherwise sound particularly good (they all sounded very good) so I decided to live with the 'niggles' - I could not let this thread go by without mentioning my own niggles.

Otherwise I confirm that I am a happy Naim system owner. Apart from the occasional black magic needed on hanging leads and stiff cables, my system gives my many hours of enjoyment every week.

DB.
