LOTS OF TROUBLE USUALLY SERIOUS. There seems to be very many software gremlins in thier products today leading to frustrating unreliability and umpredictable behaviour.

Not my experience in 30 years. On one single occasion a brand new product failed and it was replaced next day. I've been up and down the range from 12S to Reference. The oldest piece I currently own is 20 years old, the newest a matter of weeks.

Says it all, really. I don't own kit by lots of manufacturers but I don't go on their websites and attack their reliability on the basis of experiences of supposed 'friends'.

Then you misunderstand the nature of objective buying decisions. Good sound plus long-term reliability plus outstanding serviceability equals high residuals and low cost of ownership.

No. More like Leica owners if you want to get into silly comparisons.

My Naim products have been on 24/7 for 30 years, barring house moves and holidays. They get used daily and are one of the few reliable constants in my life. In fact, almost everything else is less reliable than Naim, including supposed experiences of some posters on this forum...

People have been conditioned to the Japanese is best/most reliable that may be true. You find because of this people don't talk of their problems. If these products were so good the workshops would be out of business waiting for the annual services to come round and they would have no spares departments.

Actually I worked for 20 years with a big Mercedes/Honda dealer in Paris and knew personally all the mechanic people as I had to deal privately which each of them each year, getting tons of informations; Well the story was always the same: hardly any problem with Honda's, lots of them with Mercedes (electronic problems, Diesel engine (direct injection)...,etc, Honda's mechanic workers didn't have much to do with the cars, except for routine maintenance.
I guess Japoneses car technology is often a little behind, playing a safe game...

Oddly people in US/Canada and in Europe tell you the exact same story about Japoneses car Confused

cheers,
Edouard

My experienc echoes that reported by Abbydog. My Naim is so reliable it is almost boring. It sits there 24/7 and on request plays music with no hum, noise, snap crackle or pop.

The only time I had to send it back was when we had a lightning strike nearby, that took everything electrical out including the Fritz box and it even melted the telephone wires in the cellar.

So I'll get it off my chest...NAIM IS BEST!!!

DAVOhorn,

I have owned NAIM but also have friends who do and they have no tales of woe and frustration to tell.

Just looking at your comments leads me to deduce that you are a REAL IDIOT, and have extremely poor understanding.

I have had several Naim pieces over an eight - nearly nine - year period, and only had one piece, which deleoped a problem. Not exactly a design or production fault as after six years of more or less industrial scale use the transport in my CDS2 began to mistrack.

It was serviced at Salisbury and such was the durability of the transport that it had lived as long as the lid hinge, which was also replaced. I had never had a CD player last more than three years before that.

I am on my fifth and sixth CD players now, and both are getting fragile with regard to tracking. Neither are by Naim. I only wish that they were. I am sure they would both have years of troubly free life in them if they were based on my experience.

It always amuses me when someone first explains they do not own any Naim pieces and then carries on to report hearsay!

I could say that a certain car maker's machines were unreliable. But I would rather stick to the facts. I own a Volvo, and this has been 100% reliable with due servicing for noine years. It is my second one of the same model, and yes the previous one was just a reliable. Just like my Naim pieces. As I explained above the fault with my CDS2 was nothing other than fair ware and tear! Even Volvos suffer from that! I had to have a fuel pump relay changed at 110,000 miles. On th old one I had to change a fuse one day. On the other hand I do understand that there are people whose Volvos have broken down. I even know someone who had this happen. Sacre bleu!

We must speak as we find, and honestly speak of our own experience, alone, in my view.

George

Reminds me of an ad long ago on American TV, for Tylenol I think "I'm not a doctor but I play one on television.". Frown

I wish I had time to log onto forums discussing products which I do not own and pontificate.

There was a New one here for me within 3days.
You dont get that service anywhere.
And yes you can say it should not of played up in the first place.
I am happy that after 16 months of having the cdp. There was a new one there for me.
Great back up great company.

I know what you mean Chris. I make it a policy on HiFi Corner only to post about equipment I have owned or currently own and therefore about which I posess relevant experience.

Does having a Leica lens on a Panny count as an owner?

Count me in too then!

Anyway, no bother with my 555. And no bother with my trusty TVR over 25K miles either! Perhaps it's me...
