If you are going to consider a Japanese deck, Technics make sense because parts and service are easier to obtain. ( at least in the US )

I find that obscure table from the past could be a fun restoration project for some, but sometimes it's more frustrating than their worth.

Even Rega TTs are supposed to be set-up for you with the cartridge aligned and fixed to a precise torque and you need a stylus balance. That said I've set-up a Rega and felt is was fine.

Hi ROTF;

The reason for this thread is that I don't have any experience with TTs and I'm curious and willing to get a starter TT. Sadly, I don't have a dealer that sells TTs locally. I'm wondering if there is something relatively cheap and can be setup by the end user. Thanks

Regards...

If you want something easy to set up you won't go wrong with a rega. They are great decks and I'm sure you can get them supplied with a cartridge fitted.

Hi Flame

Given you are new to record players then

Rega P1/Fono-Mini record player is supplied ready to use. [I would not recommend you use a DV cartridge given your requirements because you need to install a spacer to get it to work properly and if you are not familiar with TTs this will make it more awkward to install properly - please note DV cartridges are superb when installed]

Otherwise if a Rega is not to your taste then a Technics SL1200.

Good luck, Rotf
