I have an opportunity to pick up a used pair of practically new Trentes and Magic stands for ~ $1850 or a little less. I want to replace my Epos ES14s on the end of a CDX>hicap>112>150. The Spendor 1/2 was going to be my first choice, though I am just going on word of mouth and have not actually heard either speaker. My room is 10X14 feet so I can't have the speakers sitting in the middle of the room. I have read the thoughts in the latest thread by Omer and Gordon which has got me interested. Any sense if the Trentes would be more or less boomy and forward than the Epos?? Should I go for it??
Thanks,
Eric

Do you have a chance to audition them ? They will be more refined than the ES14, and will give a better sense of "being there" if this is important to you. Like you know already, my reservations were mainly the bass boom and overloading in my room which is larger than yours, but they were not broken in yet. I haven't heard of a problem similar to mine, so maybe it was something unique.
However, if you listen to "complex" music loud I think some audition or a return possibility is important in your case and room. It also depends on your preferences - at my place they did not do the "grunt" thing, they were very refined. This doesn't mean they're slow in any way - they are very responsive, but in a "softer", maybe more natural way.
you might want to contact randy bankert, the u. s. distributor for reynaud (see www.ossaudio.com for contact info), for information about the trentes. he's a font of information regarding the reynaud's. he's also helpful, responsive, and very easy to deal with, even if we have different expectations when it comes to shipping http://naim-audio.infopop.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif. i received my offrande's on saturday, and even with only 30 hrs. of break in, i'm digging them. i'll post a review once they've fully broken in. i haven't heard the spendors, though they have a great reputation. feel free to email me if you have questions, i'm sorta in you 'hood, marin.{

Thanks guys. I will be able to hear them but at the seller's home and he has shite electronics. I don't understand why he's got JMR at the end of Pioneer home theater, but they are going cheap due to the .com crash.
Omer, I guess I don't know what real grunt is. As long as the bass more taught and tuneful than the Epos I'll be happy.
Gordon, maybe I could call you and chat for a few minutes this afternoon since I'm going up to Foster City to check out the speakers this evening. I'll email you.
Thanks again
Eric

Well I picked up the Trentes and they are not my cup of tea. I can see that the reviews are true and they are indeed good with detail, but alas no boogie. I had to apologize to my Epos for straying for the evening. If you want a good deal on a pair and they are what you like email me.

If its not too late, try the Trentes on something other than the "Magic Stands". I had a similar reaction to yours when I first heard the speakers; switching them to my trusty ol' Foundation stands made a world of difference. The Trentes can rock.
