I was with a friend today at my local Naim dealership and he listened to CD5 - 112 - 150 - Allaes. Very pleasant. The CDXII was a big improvement, as was moving up to the 202 pre-amp. Just B4 Xmas, I took delivery of 202 - NAPSC - Hicap - 250 which has a CDSII and SBL's on the ends of it. I am delighted with the 'new sound' and much prefer it to my previous Naim amps. My dealer currently has at home a 202 - 200 which is a superb v.f.m. combo. The new amps have a more spacious, three dimensional sound but some will prefer the balance of the old stuff. |

Simon,
go for the CDX2 you know you want to!! It is a big improvement over the CD5 and I am sure it means you will be eating beans for a long time to come but think of the enjoyment you will get from it!! Regards NB |

And then the last few nights whilst i gave the dealer back the 102 I was demo-ing, i thought , "whats the nait 5 like on it's own?" , all i can say is that vocals are just superb, ok it's not in the 202/200/cdx2 league, but boy what a superb amp! and i'm selling it to buy the 202
because i've got a new triumph 955 on credit, the cdx2 can & has to wait, now about soundtracks, that triple engine just howls, much better than a cdx2 & of course i get out a little more happy new year guys |

I must say I agree with your sentiments regarding the CDX2. It's miles better than the old CDX and - dare I say it - chasing the CDS2 for out and out performance. I haven't tried it with an XPS yet, so I don't know if that eclipses the old CDS2.
The rest of the kit seems to be generally better than the old kit, but the CDX2 is looking like the real vfm item in the range - insofar as a £2650 CD player can be value for money of course! Regards, Frank. All opinions are my own and do not reflect the opinion of any organisations I work for, except where this is stated explicitly. |
