The CDS3 remote can control the 52 - In fact any Naim remote can control the 52 or the CDS3. I have a CDS3 and a 52. I also have a CDS555 power supply on loan from my dealer right now (along with a 552) The 555 Power supply on my CDS3 is simpy stunning. How CD replay could get better than this is beyond me! Adding a 555PS to your CDS2 will make a huge improvemet. Changing from a CDS2 to a CDS3 is exactly what I did a few years ago.

Having experimented with this, I would definately go to a CDS3 head on an existing XPS before upgrading a CDS2 with a 555PS.
My way forward now would be entirely in a different direction, however! The HDX, subject to dem of course ...

Very interesting comments - thank you !
Yes, I very much like the CDS2. The reason is there is an ex dem CDS3 from a dealer with a great price and so this is really tempting as the price-performance difference is good equation. The route I had in mind was CDS3 + 555PS - source first. The rest of the equipment is 52 with active 250s using Snaxo and supercap into SBLs, all siting on quadraspire rack and hiline for CDS. I have no plans to change except service the 250s when they are due in 1-2 years and the remaining equipment has many years to service time.
Any thoughts welcome....

If you hear a good improvement with the CDS3 and you are getting a good price go for it. Look for second hand 555PS or save for a new one later. If the dealer were doing a deal on the PS then maybe t'other way round.I'm sure it will sound mighty fine either way round. Let your ears decide not a flashy R/C.

Be careful, if you have a very early version of the NAC52 then it uses a proprietary remote code set and cannot be controlled by other RC5 Naim remotes (such as those supplied with Naim CD players). We can. of course, update the unit so it will use RC5 codes but as there are a lot of changes required, it's an expensive job!
